Properties of reactive magnesia-incorporated cements
Ardoğa, Mehmet Kemal; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2022-2)
Magnesium oxide (MgO) has limited use in civil engineering applications. The presence of MgO (especially in free form) in portland cements is limited by the standards due to the risk involved in the gradual hydration of MgO that may lead to disruptive expansions after the cementitious system hardens. However, it is possible to overcome this detrimental effect by calcining magnesite at lower temperatures than that is encountered in the cement kilns and use thus obtained reactive MgO as an additive in cement....

Properties of Ground Perlite Geopolymer Mortars
Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2015-07-01)
Perlite is a volcanic aluminosilicate abundant in several countries that are major producers of portland cement. The amorphous nature and silica-to-alumina ratio of ground perlite indicate that it can be activated with alkaline solutions. This study presents the strength development of mixtures containing only ground perlite as their powder binder, activated with sodium hydroxide and/or sodium silicate solutions, at room temperature or using oven curing. The structure of the formed geopolymers is investigat...
Properties of YBCO superconductors prepared by ammonium nitrate melt and solid-state reaction methods
Sozeri, Huseyin; Ozkan, Husnu; Ghazanfari, Nader (Elsevier BV, 2007-01-31)
Ceramic YBCO superconductors were prepared by: (1) ammonium nitrate melt, (2) solid-state reaction methods and the properties of the samples obtained were compared. Under the same annealing conditions single phase YBCO was synthesized at a lower temperature by the former method. Moreover, at 900 degrees C Y-123 phase and the initially adjusted Y-211 additive could be formed using ammonium nitrate melt, but not with the solid-state method which leads Y-123 at a higher temperature (950 degrees C) without Y-21...
Properties of Tl4Se3S single crystals and characterization of Ag/Tl4Se3S Schottky barrier diodes
QASRAWI, ATEF FAYEZ HASAN; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Elsevier BV, 2010-03-01)
The main physical properties of Tl4Se3S single crystals were investigated for the first time. Particularly, the crystal data, Debye temperature, dark electrical resistivity and Hall effect in addition to the temperature dependent current-voltage characteristics and photosensitivity of the Ag/Tl4Se3S Schottky barrier diode were studied. The X-ray diffraction patterns have revealed that the crystal exhibited a single phase of tetragonal structure belonging to the D-4h(18) - 14mcm space group. A Debye temperat...
