Energy conscious machine and robot speed decisions in two machine robotic cell scheduling
Güzel, Betül Necibe; Gürel, Sinan; Department of Industrial Engineering (2021-6-15)
Minimizing cycle time has always been a critical objective in manufacturing cells. Recently, energy efficient and environmentally conscious manufacturing practices have received increasing attention from researchers and practitioners. Therefore, in this thesis we consider a 2-machine manufacturing cell with a material handling robot where two conflicting objectives exist: minimization of cycle time and energy consumption. It is a flow type cell where identical parts are first processed on the first machine ...
Neuromodulatory effect of bilateral rhythmic tactile stimulation on recognition memory
Delikaya, Anıl Berk; Özkurt, Tolga Esat; Department of Medical Informatics (2022-11-29)
Over two decades, Saccade Induced Retrieval Enhancement (SIRE), referring to memory performance enhancement with alternating left-right horizontal eye movements, gained a lot of popularity among cognitive science researchers. A similar effect can optionally be realized by bilateral tactile stimulation (BLS). Although the mechanism behind the SIRE effect hasn't been conclusively revealed yet, there have been two alternative explanations: the interhemispheric interaction hypothesis and the top- down attention...
Image classification for content based indexing
Taner, Serdar; Severcan, Mete; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2003)
As the size of image databases increases in time, the need for content based image indexing and retrieval become important. Image classification is a key to content based image indexing. In this thesis supervised learning with feed forward back propagation artificial neural networks is used for image classification. Low level features derived from the images are used to classify the images to interpret the high level features that yield semantics. Features are derived using detail histogram correlations obt...
Comparison of deep networks for gesture recognition
Sofu, Buğra; Ulusoy, İlkay; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2021-9-06)
Gesture recognition is an important problem and has been studied over the years especially in the fields such as surveillance systems, analysis of human behavior, robotics etc. In this thesis, different state of art algorithms, which are based on deep learning, were implemented and compared considering model complexities and accuracies. Also, a new approach was proposed and compared with them. Tested algorithms can be classified into two main categories: hybrid approaches, which use CNN and LSTM architectu...
A Critique of the individuation problem in the philosophy of internal relations.
Çelik, Kadir Sinan; İnam, Ahmet; Department of Philosophy (2002)
In the present study, by determining the externalist and internalist accounts of individuation, it is aimed to make a comparative analysis of the individuation problem. After the problems of individuation within substance and bundle theory are shown, based on the interpretation of dialectics as philosophy of internal relations, an alternative account of individuation is tried to develop. Within the framework drawn, it is proposed that Bertell Oilman's conceptualization of the process of abstraction is evalu...
