Bu çalışmanın amacı, matematik öğretmenlerinin matematiğin doğası ve öğretimi ile ilgili inançlarının matematik eğitimi açısından önemini açıklayarak bu alanda yapılacak olan araştırmalara, hizmet öncesi ve hizmetiçi matematik Öğretmen eğitimi ile ilgili çalışmalara katkıda bulunmaktır. Çeşitli araştırmaların sonuçlarına göre öğretmenlerin matematiğin doğası ve öğretimi ile ilgili inançları hem matematik öğretimininin etkinliğini hem de kendi Öğrencilerinin aynı konularla ilgili inançlarının oluşmasını etkilemektedir. Bu nedenle, bu konular gözönüne alınarak uygun hizmet öncesive hizmetiçi eğitim programları hazırlanarak matematik eğitiminin kalitesini artıracak şekilde düzenlenmelidir. Bunun gerçekleştirilebiimesi için bu konu ile ilgili gerekli araştırmalar yapılmalıdır. Ayrıca, bu inançların eğitimin hangi aşamalarında ve ne ölçüde etkili olduğu konusu incelenmelidir.
