Effect of piezoceramic hysteresis in passive and hybrid structural acoustic control

2001-09-12
Structural acoustic control via passive and hybrid electrical shunting of a piezoceramic wafer bonded onto the surface of a simply supported plate is investigated with emphasis on modeling and understanding the effect of piezoceramic nonlinearity on system performance. A nonlinear rate-independent finite-dimension Ishlinskii hysteresis model is experimentally identified for the PZT wafer by itself and then integrated into the coupled dynamic equations of the overall system consisting of the plate and electrically shunted PZT wafer. This model is then used to investigate the impact of PZT hysteresis on its structural acoustic control performance in passive and hybrid scenarios. A multi-term describing function representation of the Ishlinskii hysteresis model is formulated to aid in computational studies.

Effect of material properties on interaction of ceramic and glass flyer plates with hypervelocity jet
Deniz, Tansel; Yıldırım, Raif Orhan (2022-02-01)
A study on the effect of material properties on the interaction of explosively driven ceramic and glass plates with shaped charge jets is performed in order to bolster future studies on the design of reactive cassettes with non-steel flyer plates. A symmetric steel reactive cassette construction is taken as a base, and front and back plates are selectively changed with ceramic or glass plates keeping the areal densities similar. Plates manufactured from two different grades of alumina, silicon carbide, boro...
Effect of Flow Rate Controllers and their Opening Levels on Liquid Steel Flow in Continuous Casting Mold
Gursoy, Kadir Ali; Yavuz, Mehmet Metin (2016-01-01)
The present study investigates the mold flow structure at constant throughput condition for different slide-gate and stopper rod openings by utilizing computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling. Detailed validation of the CFD models are conducted using available experimental data and the performances of three different turbulence models, standard k-epsilon, realizable k-epsilon and k-omega SST are compared. The constant throughput casting operations for different slide-gate and stopper rod controller openin...
Effect of isolator and ground motion characteristics on the performance of seismic-isolated bridges
Dicleli, Murat (Wiley, 2006-02-01)
This paper presents the effect of isolator and substructure properties as well as the frequency characteristics and intensity of the ground motion on the performance of seismic-isolated bridges (SIBs) and examines some critical design clauses in the AASHTO Guide Specification for Seismic Isolation Design. For this purpose, a parametric study, involving more than 800 non-linear time history analyses of simplified structural models representative of typical SIBs, is conducted. The results from the parametric ...
Effect of AAC Infill Walls on Structural System Dynamics of a Concrete Building
Çelik, Ozan Cem (2016-01-01)
The effect of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) infill walls on the structural system dynamics of a two-story reinforced concrete building is investigated using its finite element structural model, which is calibrated to simulate the acceleration-frequency response curves from its forced vibration test. The model incorporating the AAC infill walls by equivalent diagonal struts captures the increase in lateral stiffness of the building and the torsional motions induced due to the asymmetrically placed AAC in...
Effect of Presoaked Expanded Perlite Aggregate on the Dimensional Stability and Mechanical Properties of Engineered Cementitious Composites
KESKİN, SÜLEYMAN BAHADIR; Sulaiman, Kamaran; Sahmaran, Mustafa; Yaman, İsmail Özgür (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2013-06-01)
This paper reports on an investigation of the use of expanded perlite aggregate as saturated lightweight aggregate (LWA) with respect to the mechanical and dimensional stability properties of engineered cemetitious composites (ECC). Expanded perlite aggregate was soaked in water for 24 h before its use in ECC, and replaced 10, 20, and 30% of the aggregate that was used in ECC production. The mixture proportion of a standard ECC mixture with properties that have been extensively reported in the literature is...
