Optimization of design parameter for tonpilz type transducers
Çiçek, Merve; Çalışkan, Mehmet; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2014)
Design of a Tonpilz type transducer is a complex process involving many design parameters which may affect each other. Therefore, an optimum design is a difficult task to reach. The purpose of this study is to optimize design parameters of Tonpilz type transducers. The study involves three different transducer modeling techniques. Each of these models is explained and benchmarked with the help of published experimental data. The simplest model is exploited to produce initial data for unknown design paramete...
Shape models based on elliptic PDES, associated energies, and their applications in 2D and 3D
Gençtav, Aslı; Tarı, Zehra Sibel; Can, Tolga; Department of Computer Engineering (2018)
By using an elliptic PDE or its modifications, we develop implicit shape representations and demonstrate their two- and three-dimensional applications. In the first part of the thesis, we present a novel shape characterization field that provides a local measure of roundness at each shape point. The field is computed by comparing the solution of the elliptic PDE on the shape domain and the solution of the same PDE on the reference disk. We demonstrate its potential via illustrative applications including gl...
Generation of optimized voronoi based interior structures for improved mechanical properties
Öncel, Anil Can; Yaman, Ulaş (2019-01-01)
General design approaches are related with and inspired by natural examples. Since evolution itself pushes beings to their full potentials in the most efficient way, it is important for us to understand, observe and mimic the nature itself. In this study, naturally inspired internal structures are constructed by using hollow Voronoi cells and models are optimized to meet the design requirements. For this purpose, design volume firstly undergoes topology optimization with specific load and support conditions...
Comparison of regression techniques via Monte Carlo simulation
Mutan, Oya Can; Ayhan, Hüseyin Öztaş; Department of Statistics (2004)
The ordinary least squares (OLS) is one of the most widely used methods for modelling the functional relationship between variables. However, this estimation procedure counts on some assumptions and the violation of these assumptions may lead to nonrobust estimates. In this study, the simple linear regression model is investigated for conditions in which the distribution of the error terms is Generalised Logistic. Some robust and nonparametric methods such as modified maximum likelihood (MML), least absolut...
Robust estimation in multiple linear regression model with non-Gaussian noise
Akkaya, Ayşen (2008-02-01)
The traditional least squares estimators used in multiple linear regression model are very sensitive to design anomalies. To rectify the situation we propose a reparametrization of the model. We derive modified maximum likelihood estimators and show that they are robust and considerably more efficient than the least squares estimators besides being insensitive to moderate design anomalies.
