We present design and computational analysis of multiband metamaterial structures that are fabricated via low-cost inkjet printing. In particular, three-dimensional arrangements of split-ring resonators with different sizes are considered to achieve bandstop characteristics at multiple frequencies. A fast and accurate solver is employed to analyze alternative arrangements, while considering different parameters to obtain strong resonances at desired frequencies. The obtained designs are fabricated in a low-cost inkjet-printing setup, which is based on using conventional printers that are modified and loaded with silver-based inks. Initial results shown in this paper demonstrate the feasibility of low-cost multiband metamaterials.

Design, Simulation, and Fabrication of Broadband Inkjet-Printed Log-Periodic Antennas
Dolapci, Turker; Mutlu, Feza; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2017-09-27)
We present design and computational analysis of log-periodic antennas that are fabricated by using low-cost inkjet printing technology. The designed antennas operate in the 1.5-2.5 GHz range and are suitable for diverse applications, including energy harvesting at WiFi and GSM bands. Suitable designs are fabricated by using silver-based inks in standard commercial printers. Despite the challenges in both design and fabrication processes, we demonstrate log-periodic antennas with desired operating properties...
Design and Fabrication of Low-Cost Inkjet-Printed Metamaterials
İbili, Hande; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2017-09-27)
We consider three-dimensional metamaterials involving split-ring resonators (SRRs) that are produced by using low-cost inkjet printing. Following their three-dimensional computational simulations, sensitivity analysis is applied on SRR arrays in order to evaluate their tolerance to various fabrication errors. We use silver-based inks in standard commercial printers in order to fabricate SRRs and their arrays. Measurements demonstrate the feasibility of fabricating very low-cost three-dimensional metamateria...
Design and Analysis of Nanoantenna Arrays for Imaging and Sensing Applications at Optical Frequencies
Isiklar, Goktug; Cetin, Isa Can; Algun, Mustafa; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2019-01-01)
We present computational analysis of nanoantenna arrays for imaging and sensing applications at optical frequencies. Arrays of metallic nanoantennas are considered in an accurate simulation environment based on surface integral equations and the multilevel fast multipole algorithm developed for plasmonic structures. Near-zone responses of the designed arrays to nearby nanoparticles are investigated in detail to demonstrate the feasibility of detection. We show that both metallic and dielectric nanoparticles...
Simulation of dynamical refractive index change in on-chip optical devices
Aslan, Anıl; Kocaman, Serdar; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
Theoretical modeling and numerical verification are essential in integrated photonics for designing optimized structures as well as interpretation of the experimental results. In this thesis, a dynamically changing refractive index modification for the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method is proposed, implemented with C++ and results are compared with recent experimental studies. The proposed method is based on the idea of the time-domain simulation of the non-stationary objects while satisfying the ...
