An investigation on compatibility properties of exterior finish coats for insulated walls in terms of water vapour pemeability and modulus ofelasticity
Örs, Kerime; Tavukçuoğlu, Ayşe; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2006)
The compatibility properties of some contemporary finish coats together with their complementary layers used in insulated exterior walls were examined in terms of water vapour permeability and modulus of elasticity. Basic physical and mechanical properties of some synthetic-, cement- and polymer-based external finish coats were analyzed in laboratory. Some additional samples, complementing the wall section, were also examined for their water vapour permeability. Results showed that the finish coats were hig...
An investigation of heavy metal biosorption in relation to C/N ratio of activated sludge
Yuncu, Bilgen; Sanin, Faika Dilek; Yetiş, Ülkü (2006-09-21)
The effect of ON ratio of activated sludge on heavy metal biosorption was investigated. Three sets of semi-continuous reactors with different feed ON ratios (9, 21 and 43 mg COD/mg TKN) were set up. Sorption equilibrium tests have indicated that the biosorptive capacity of activated sludge was highly dependent on metal species and the ON ratio. The increase in ON ratio resulted in an increase in the Cd(II) sorption capacity of activated sludge whereas it decreased the Cu(II) sorption capacity. As for Zn(II)...

An investigation of microstructure, microhardness and biocompatibility characteristics of yttrium hydroxyapatite doped with fluoride
Toker, Sıdıka Mine; Evis, Zafer; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2010)
The aim of this study was to investigate the microstructure, microhardness and biocompatibility properties of nano hydroxyapatite (HA) doped with a constant yttrium (Y3+) and varying fluoride (F-) compositions. HA was synthesized via precipitation method and sintered at 1100C for 1 hour. Increased densities were achieved upon Y3+ doping while F- doping led to a decrease in densities. For structural analysis, XRD, SEM and FTIR spectroscopy examinations were performed. No secondary phases were observed in XR...
