Biosynthesis of nanoparticles has received increased attention due to a growing need to develop environmentally benign technologies in material synthesis and employment of secondary metabolites from plant extract that has emerged as a novel technology for this purpose. In this study, a rapid and biogenic process for fabrication of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) is reported. Highly dispersed palladium nanoparticles were successfully prepared by using aqueous extract of Astraglmanna, a non-toxic and eco-friendly material, without extra surfactant, capping agent, and template. The PdNPs were characterized by using UVVisible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope - energy dispersive spectra (SEM-EDX), Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy (FTIR), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Transmission electron microscopic (TEM) images of the PdNPs were recorded and mean size of the biosynthesized nanoparticles was found to be approximately 15 nm.

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MICROPOROUS TITANO/VANADOSILICATE ZEOTYPE FILMS FOR HUMIDITY SENSING APPLICATIONS
Davoudnezhad, Ramona; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Özkan, Necati; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2022-12-27)
The growing demand for environmental control for various chemical molecules has led to considerable interest in the research devoted to developing new materials for sensor devices. Since humidity is a prevalent component in our environment, measurements and control of humidity are essential for human comfort and a broad spectrum of industries and technologies. The constructive design of a good humidity sensor is a rather complicated topic due to its requirements, such as linear response, high sensitivity, f...
Biosynthetic Route for the Preparation of Nonregular Gold Nanoparticles Using Aqueous Extracted of Nettle (Urtica dioica L.) Plant
Molaei, Rahim; Farhadi, Khalil; Forough, Mehrdad; Pourhossein, Atefeh (2015-01-01)
In this study, the bioreduction of Au (III) ions to Au-0 are proposed by using the biomass come from nettle (Urtica dioica L.) leaves as a pharmaceutical plant. This biomimetic, safe and cost effective procedure has led to the preparation of irregular gold nanosized particles. The synthesized gold nanoparticles were characterized with UV-Vis, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, dynamic light scattering, FT-IR, and zeta potential measurement techniques. The obtained results indicated the for...
Biohydrogen production from barley straw hydrolysate through sequential dark and photofermentation
Ozgur, Ebru; Peksel, Begum (Elsevier BV, 2013-08-01)
Biohydrogen production by sequential operation of dark and photo-fermentation processes is a promising method to produce hydrogen from renewable resources, in a sustainable way. In this study, barley straw hydrolysate (BSEI) dark fermenter effluent (DFE) was used as the biomass feedstock for biohydrogen production through photofermentation. Two different dark fermentation effluents were obtained by performing fermentation with or without addition of yeast extract (YE), using hyperthermophilic dark fermentat...
UTILIZATION OF CURCUMIN AND BIODEGRADABLE POLYMERS IN INTELLIGENT AND ACTIVE FOOD PACKAGING
YILDIZ, Eda; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Kahyaoğlu, Leyla Nesrin; Department of Food Engineering (2022-12-21)
The main purpose of this study is to produce smart and active packages with curcumin using biodegradable polymers. To fulfill this aim, two different film making methods namely electrospinning and casting were used. Firstly, to take benefit of the halochromic properties of curcumin, it was encapsulated into chitosan/PEO based nanofibers to monitor food freshness. The average diameter of the fibers was found to be between 283 ± 27 nm and 338 ± 35 nm. It was concluded that increasing the chitosan amount in na...
Growth and characterization of indium rich indium-gallium-nitride solar cell epitaxial structures by metal organic chemical vapor deposition
Çakmak, Hüseyin; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Turan, Raşit; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2012)
The purpose of this study is to develop a technology for indium (In) rich indium gallium nitride (InGaN) solar cell epitaxial structures through metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method. InxGa1-xN solar cell structures have potential to cover 90% of the solar spectrum by varying In composition in the active region of the solar cell, where bandgaps of indium nitride (InN) and gallium nitride (GaN) are 0.7 eV and 3.4 eV, respectively. Photovoltaic devices that have a bandgap larger than 2.0 eV g...
