The electronic structure of capped and uncapped CdS nanoparticles
Ercan, Ilke; Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (American Scientific Publishers, 2008-02-01)
The electronic structure of spherical CdmSn nanoparticles having zinc-blende symmetry and the diameters of up to around 3 nm has been studied by Hartree-Fock theory to find out the effect of the cluster size on the optical energy gap between HOMO and LUMO. The effect of encapsulation on the electronic structure has been also investigated for CdS4 and Cd13S4 clusters embedded in SiO2 matrix and sodalite cage by Hartree-Fock theory. It was found that the energy gap of CdS nanoparticles can be regulated by bot...
THE STRUCTURAL AND ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES OF BNxAs1-x ALLOYS
Mohammad, Rezek; Katırcıoğlu, Şenay (2012-10-01)
The structural and electronic properties of BNxAs1-x alloys have been investigated in the total range of nitrogen by the FP-LAPW method based on DFT within the EV-PW-GGA scheme. The equilibrium lattice constants, bulk moduli, first-order pressure derivatives of the bulk moduli, and cohesive energies have been obtained by total energy calculations of the alloys after both volume and geometry optimizations. The large bowing parameters found for the lattice constants and bulk moduli have demonstrated that the ...
The structure, energetics and melting behavior of free platinum clusters
Sebetci, Ali; Kökten, Hatice; Department of Physics (2004)
The Voter and Chen version of an embedded-atom model, derived by fitting to experimental data of both the diatomic molecule and bulk platinum simultaneously, has been applied to study the locally stable structures, energetics, growth patterns and melting behavior of free platinum clusters in the size range of N=2-56 and N=75. Using the constant-energy molecular dynamics simulations, thermal and conjugate-gradient minimization techniques, the global minima and the other locally stable structures have been di...

The electronic and optical properties of Zn1-xCaxSe mixed alloys
Sürücü, Gökhan; Colakoglu, K.; Deligoz, E.; Korozlu, N.; ÇİFTCİ, YASEMİN (2010-08-01)
We have investigated the structural, electronic, and optical properties of Zn1-xCaxSe ternary alloys using first principles calculations within the plane-wave pseudopotential method. Some basic physical properties, such as lattice constant, bulk modulus, electronic band structures, and optical properties (dielectric functions, refractive index, and energy loss function) were calculated. In addition, the effects of composition x on bulk modulus, band gap, refractive index and dielectric function were calcula...
