In this study, an analytical model for the induction machine (IM) with an inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) fault is developed based on the voltage-behind-reactance (VBR) approach. The main motivation is to provide a simulation tool that can be used for fault detection and condition monitoring research. The proposed simulation model is implemented in Simulink, and compared with the outcomes of both finite element analysis (FEA) and experimental studies. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed model as a simple simulation tool for the analysis of IMs with ITSC faults. The proposed Simulink model has been made available as opensource.

Line Current Analysis for Bearing fault Detection In Induction Motors Using Hilbert Transform Phase
Oumaamar, M. E. K.; Razik, H.; Rezzoug, A.; Khezzar, A. (2011-09-10)
The present paper focuses by means of an experimental study, on the effect of a bearing fault on the stator current signatures in induction motors. The variation in the amplitude of the characteristic components is not so significant. For that and in order to depict the presence of the fault harmonic signatures, the authors used the phase analysis of Hilbert transform applied on the spectrum modulus of the line current.
Interturn short-circuit faults in permanent magnet synchronous machines: An extended review and comprehensive analysis
Zafarani, Mohsen; Bostancı, Emine; Qi, Yuan; GÖKTAŞ, TANER; Akin, Bilal (2018-12-01)
This paper presents an extended review and recent advances in modeling and diagnosis of interturn short circuit (ITSC) faults in permanent magnet synchronous machines, supported with in-depth fault analysis. In the analysis part, the influence of the fault intensity on the machine's parameters and performance is analyzed at various operating conditions through finite-element analysis, drive system models, and test bench measurements. The presented findings shed light on the fault signatures and factors that...
A REPLICATION APPROACH TO INTERVAL ESTIMATION IN SIMULATION
Köksalan, Mustafa Murat; BASOZ, N (1991-12-11)
The authors modify an earlier approach developed for reducing the bias of the estimator for the mean response in simulation caused by the initial conditions. They try to balance the bias of the estimator in a simulation run by imposing a bias in the opposite direction in a companion run by suitably setting its initial conditions. They present analytical results for the bias of the estimator for AR(1) and M/M/s processes. They suggest making independent replications of the pairs of runs to construct a confid...
A Comparative Study on Non-Linear State Estimators Applied to Sensorless AC Drives: MRAS and Kalman Filter
Akin, Bilal; Orguner, Umut; Ersak, Aydin; Ehsani, Mehrdad (2004-11-06)
In this paper, two different nonlinear estimators applied to sensorless AC drives, Kalman Filtering techniques (EKF and UKF) and Model Reference Adaptive System (back emf ans reactive power models), are discussed and compared to each other. Both of the observer types are studied and analyzed both experimentally and theoretically. In order to compare the observers precisely, the observers are tested under the identical conditions.
An artificial neural network estimator design for the inferential model predictive control of an industrial multi-component distillation column
Bahar, Almila; Özgen, Canan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2003)
An inferential control methodology, that utilizes an artificial neural network (ANN) estimator for a model predictive controller, is developed for an industrial multi-component distillation column. In the column, propane and butane is separated from a mixture of propane, n-butane, i-butane, and i-pentane with a top product purity of 96% propane and a bottom product purity of 63% n- butane. Dual composition control of the column must be used in a multivariable model predictive controller for an efficient ope...
