Association Between Motor Competence and Body Mass Index in Children Aged 10-13

Söğüt, Mustafa
The purposes of this study were to examine the association between motor competence (MC) and body mass index (BMI) in children aged 10-13 and to determine gender-related differences in motor competence. Material and Methods: Participants were male (n=59) and female (n=44) children between the ages of 10 and 13 (12.1±1.2 years). Body height and weight were measured and BMI was calculated as dividing the body weight by the square of the body height. 'Körperkoordinationstest für Kinder (KTK)' was used to assess the MC of the participants. The KTK includes four subtests; walking backward, hopping on one leg, jumping sideways, and moving sideways. The raw scores for each subset were converted to the age- and genderspecific motor quotient. The sum of four items was used to calculate the total KTK motor quotient scores. Finally, the total KTK motor quotient scores were utilized to classify the MC levels of children.

Variations in Central Adiposity, Cardiovascular Fitness, and Objectively Measured Physical Activity According to Weight Status in Children (9-11 Years)
Söğüt, Mustafa; Clark, Cain C. T.; Nikolaidis, Pantelis Theodoros; Rosemann, Thomas; Knechtle, Beat (Frontiers Media SA, 2019-07-24)
The purpose of this study was twofold: first, to compare the central adiposity (CA), cardiovascular fitness (CF), and physical activity (PA) in children with different weight status, and second, to determine the associations between moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and measures of adiposity [CA and body mass index (BMI)] and CF. A sample of 244 children (boys = 120 and girls = 124), 9.7-10.8 years of age (10.3 +/- 0.3 years), was measured for stature, body mass, waist circumferences, and 20-m m...
Associations between anthropometric indicators of adiposity and body fat percentage in normal weight young adults
Söğüt, Mustafa; Varela-Silva, I. (2018-06-01)
The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to determine the associations between various anthropometric adiposity screening indices and body fat percentage estimated by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). A total of 186 (95 male and 91 female) normal weight (body mass index [BMI] = 18.5- 24.9 kg/m2) young adults (mean age= 20.96 ± 2.03 years) were measured on body fat percentage, body height, body mass, waist and hip circumferences. Abdominal volume index, body adiposity index, BMI, body roundness in...
Influence of duration of total breast-feeding on bone mineral density in a Turkish population: does the priority of risk factors differ from society to society?
Dursun, N; Akın, Serhat; Dursun, E; Sade, I; Korkusuz, F (2006-05-01)
Introduction: Despite numerous studies on risk factors for osteoporosis the effect of breast-feeding on bone mineral density (BMD) is unclear. In this study our aim was to determine the influence of total duration of breast-feeding on BMD, and subsequent risk of osteoporosis. Methods: A total of 1,486 postmenopausal women over the age of 40 were included in the study. Women with diseases or who were under drug treatments known to affect bone metabolism were excluded. The BMD of the lumbar spine and femoral ...
Predictor variables of psychological distress and perceived growth following motor vehicle accidents
Birol, Aşkım Sevinç; Karancı, Ayşe Nuray; Department of Psychology (2004)
This study aimed to examine the predictor variables of psychological distress and perceived growth among the survivors of motor vehicle accidents. Demographic characteristics as pre-accident variables, cognitive appraisals of the accident as accident related factors, coping strategies and social support as post-accident variables were used as predictors of distress and perceived growth. 200 adults (142 males and 58 females, ages between 18 and 65) participated in the study. Data was collected by a questionn...
Anthropometric Obesity Indices, Body Fat Percentage, and Grip Strength in Young Adults with different Physical Activity Levels
Söğüt, Mustafa; Altunsoy, Kübra; Clark, Cain; Clemente, Filipe Manuel; DOĞAN, ALİ AHMET (2019-07-01)
The purposes of this study were to determine whether moderately physically active (MPA) and highly physically active (HPA) male (n = 96, age = 22.5 ± 1.7 years) and female (n = 85, age = 21.3 ± 1.6 years) young adults differed in their anthropometric obesity indices (AOIs), body fat percentage (BF%), and muscular strength, and also to examine the associations between physical activity level (PAL) and the abovementioned variables. Participants were measured for body height and weight, BF%, waist and hip circ...
