Discussion of "Liquefaction-induced lateral spreading at Izmit Bay during the Kocaeli (Izmit)-Turkey earthquake" by K. Onder Cetin, T. Leslie Youd, Raymond B. Seed, Jonathan D. Bray, Jonathan P. Stewart, H. Turan Durgunoglu, W. Lettis, and M. Tolga Yilmaz
Bakır, Bahadır Sadık (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2006-07-01)
This paper presents a study of liquefaction-induced lateral ground displacements along the coast of Izmit Bay during the 1999 Kocaeli (Izmit)-Turkey earthquake. The paper discusses: (1) observed ground displacements after the earthquake, (2) the results of field investigations by means of borings and in situ index tests, including standard penetration tests, static cone penetration tests, and piezocone tests, (3) analyses of expected lateral displacements using two empirical models and one semiempirical mod...
CALCAREOUS NANNOFOSSILS FROM THE LATE JURASSIC EARLY CRETACEOUS OF NORTHWEST ANATOLIA, TURKEY
Altıner, Sevinç (Wiley, 1993-12-01)
Within the framework of an integrated stratigraphy, a detailed biostratigraphic study of Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous (Tithonian-Valanginian) calcareous nannofossils was carried out in north-west Anatolia, Turkey.
Linear and nonlinear analysis of human postural sway
Çelik, Hüseyin; Gürses, Senih; Department of Engineering Sciences (2008)
Human upright posture exhibits an everlasting oscillatory behavior of complex nature, called as human postural sway. Variations in the position of the Center-of-Pressure (CoP) were used to describe the human postural sway. In this study; CoP data, which has experimentally been collected from 28 different subjects (14 males and 14 females with their ages ranging from 6 to 84), who were divided into 4 groups according to their ages has been analyzed. The data collection from each of the subjects was performed...
A Conservation Management Plan for Gordion and its Environs
Erder, Evin H.; Guersan-Salzmann, Ayse; Miller, Naomi F. (2013-11-01)
A Conservation Management Plan for Gordion and its Environs has been developed by a multidisciplinary team within a partnership between the University of Pennsylvania (both the School of Design and Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology) and Middle East Technical University (Faculty of Architecture) in Ankara. The project has involved a new approach to the protection of cultural material at the site itself, as well as the survey and documentation of a 140 km2 area, with Gordion as its centre, to include the...
Cyclic sedimentation across the Permian-Triassic boundary (Central Taurides, Turkey)
Unal, E; Altıner, Demir; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Ozkan-Altiner, S (2003-06-01)
The best preserved Permian - Triassic boundary beds in Turkey are found in the Hadim region of the central Taurides. The succession is exposed in one of the allochthonous units of the Tauride Belt, the Aladag Unit, whose stratigraphy includes beds ranging from the Devonian to the Cretaceous systems. In the Aladag Unit, the Permian - Triassic boundary beds are entirely composed of carbonates. The Permian portion of these beds belongs to the Paradagmarita Zone, whereas the lowermost Triassic contains the Lowe...
