Colloidal semiconductor nanoplatelets (NPLs) have recently emerged as a new class of colloidal nanocrystals. NPLs are quasi two-dimensional nanocrystals having atomically flat surfaces and have unique properties such as narrow photoluminescence (PL) emission (similar to 10 nm) and giant oscillator strength. NPLs can be self-assembled into stacks. These are one-dimensional superstructures that can contain tens or hundreds of NPLs in one chain.

Colloidal CdSe Quantum Wells with Graded Shell Composition for Low-Threshold Amplified Spontaneous Emission and Highly Efficient Electroluminescence
Keleştemur, Yusuf; Anni, Marco; Yakunin, Sergii; De Giorgi, Maria Luisa; Kovalenko, Maksym V. (2019-12-01)
Semiconductor nanoplatelets (NPLs) have emerged as a very promising class of colloidal nanocrystals for light-emitting devices owing to their quantum-well-like electronic and optical characteristics. However, their lower photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and limited stability have hampered the realization of their outstanding luminescent properties in device applications. Here, to address these deficiencies, we present a two-step synthetic approach that enables the synthesis of core/shell NPLs with pre...
Quantum Dot/Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cell Hybrid Device and Mechanism of Its Operation
Frohleiks, Julia; Wepfer, Svenja; Keleştemur, Yusuf; Demir, Hilmi Volkan; Bacher, Gerd; Nannen, Ekaterina (2016-09-01)
A new type of light-emitting hybrid device based on colloidal quantum dots (QDs) and an ionic transition metal complex (iTMC) light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEC) is introduced. The developed hybrid devices show light emission from both active layers, which are combined in a stacked geometry. Time-resolved photoluminescence experiments indicate that the emission is controlled by direct charge injection into both the iTMC and the QD layer. The turn-on time (time to reach 1 cd/m(2)) at constant voltage o...
Enzymatic extraction of activated sludge extracellular polymers and implications on bioflocculation
Sesay, Ml; Özcengiz, Gülay; Sanin, Faika Dilek (Elsevier BV, 2006-04-01)
This study examines enzyme hydrolysis, a mild, effective, but a rarely used method of extracellular polymer extraction, in removing polymers from mixed culture activated sludge flocs. Two carbohydrate specific enzymes (a-amylase and cellulase) and a protein specific enzyme (proteinase) are used during the study. First, the kinetic aspect is investigated, then enzyme dose optimization is carried out on laboratory grown activated sludge samples cultured at solids retention times (SRT) of 4 and 20 days. A more...
Highly Stable, Near-Unity Efficiency Atomically Flat Semiconductor Nanocrystals of CdSe/ZnS Hetero-Nanoplatelets Enabled by ZnS-Shell Hot-Injection Growth

Colloidal semiconductor nanoplatelets (NPLs) offer important benefits in nanocrystal optoelectronics with their unique excitonic properties. For NPLs, colloidal atomic layer deposition (c-ALD) provides the ability to produce their core/shell heterostructures. However, as c-ALD takes place at room temperature, this technique allows for only limited stability and low quantum yield. Here, highly stable, near-unity efficiency CdSe/ZnS NPLs are shown using hot-injection (HI) shell growth performed at 573 K, enab...
Nonequilibrium Plasma Aerotaxy of InN Nanocrystals and Their Photonic Properties
Üner, Necip Berker; Niedzwiedzki, Dariusz M.; Thimsen, Elijah (2019-12-01)
A recently introduced gas-phase method for the synthesis of III-V semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs), termed nonequilibrium plasma aerotaxy, is extended to the synthesis of indium nitride. The InN NCs were made to be free-standing, stoichiometric, and crystalline in the hexagonal phase. NCs were degenerate, and they displayed localized surface plasmon resonance in the mid-infrared, which was tunable between 0.22 and 0.34 eV (3650-5600 nm). Free electron densities span across (1.6-6.0) X 1020 cm(-3), as estima...
