Investigation of the effect of orientation and heat treatment on the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of 7050 aluminium alloy
Çevik, Gül; Doruk, Mustafa; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2004)
In the present work, the effect of variation in specimen orientation and heat treatment on the Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) susceptibility of 7050 aluminum alloy was investigated in 3,5% NaCl solution and under freely corroding conditions. For this purpose, Constant Extension Rate Tests (CERT) was performed on precracked Compact Tension (CT) specimens and the Direct Current Potential Drop technique was applied to measure the crack lengths. In addition to crack length versus time curves, the relationship ...
Investigation of subsynchronous resonance risk in the 380 kv Turkish electric network
Ozay, N.; Güven, Ali Nezih (null; 1988-12-01)
Subsynchronous resonance (SSR) occurs when a resonant frequency of a series compensated transmission system interacts with a natural frequency of the turbine prime mover. This form of SSR is referred to as torsional interaction which, under certain conditions, may become self-excited and cause serious damage to electrical equipment and turbine shafts. The presence of a thermal power plant (Kangal) in the close vicinity of a group of series capacitors in Eastern Turkey necessitated a careful investigation of...

Investigation of the effects of switching technique and gan device on the performance of bidirectional buck-boost DC/DC converter
Koçak, İbrahim; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
In general, a DC/DC converter provides energy transfer from a source to a load in one direction. However, today, bidirectional power transfer is needed for most of the system that includes battery based energy storage, such as solar or wind power plant, uninterruptible power supplies, automotive industry, smart grid applications, telecommunication and space technology. Serving a compact solution for this need is crucial in order to reduce the total size of the system especially where the physical size is a ...
Investigation of thermoluminescence properties of metal oxide doped lithium triborate
Oezdemir, Zeynep; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Yılmaz, Aysun (2007-10-01)
In this study, lithium triborate (LiB3O5) doped with different metal oxides were investigated to explore its thermoluminescence properties. Solid-state reaction method was employed for the synthesis of the desired materials. The formation of the produced phases was confirmed by Powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Infrared (IR), Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) examinations. It was found that, CuO and Al2O3 doped lithium triborate samples exhibit very significant thermol...
