The present paper studies single particle combustion of olive residue (OR), almond shell (AS), and Tunçbilek lignite (TL) and their thermal pre-treated particles in a vertical wire mesh reactor (WMR) setup. Pre-treatment of the fuels was done via torrefaction, slow, and fast pyrolysis. The particles with different masses were heated to 1000 °C by radiation with a heating rate of 900 °C/s. The combustion process was recorded with a high-speed camera. The time analysis demonstrated that the particle mass and size did not affect ignition delay time; however, slow pyrolysis had a significant effect on the ignition delay time. The ignition delay time was significantly increased for the chars produced from slow pyrolysis compared to raw and other heat-treated particles for all fuels. Burnout times of all fuels increased proportionally with particle mass. Fast and slow pyrolysis generally increased the char combustion and burnout times. The average burnout times for fast and slow pyrolyzed biochars were ∼20 s and ∼29 s, respectively, while those of raw biomass were ∼9 s. The average burnout times for fast and slow pyrolyzed lignite particles was ∼20 s and ∼53 s, respectively, while those of raw lignite was ∼19 s, when 2 mg particles were compared. Fast pyrolyzed biomass particles had similar burnout times compared to those of raw TL particles. This depicts the potential of co-firing TL with biomass chars produced from fast pyrolysis.

The effects of pectin and wax on the characteristics of oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions
Elik, Aysel; Koçak Yanik, Derya; Özel, Barış; Öztop, Halil Mecit; Fahrettin, G.ö.ğ.ü.ş. (2021-01-01)
© 2021 Institute of Food Technologists®Abstract: The study was aimed to investigate characteristics of emulsion containing pectin, wax, maltodextrin, and carotenoid enriched flaxseed oil by means of stability, rheology, particle size, and low-resolution of time domain nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry measurements. Emulsions were prepared with different carotenoid enriched-flaxseed oil concentrations (6%, 9%, 12%, and 15% w/w) and ratios of maltodextrin/(pectin+wax) (3:1, 6:1, 9:1, and 12:1 g/g)....
The effect of magnisium to sulfur ratio on the graphite morphology of graphite cast iron produced at differrent section thicknesses
ELMABROUK, Omar; ERFAN, Osama M.; Kalkanlı, Ali (2011-09-18)
This paper is concerned with the investigation of the effect of magnesium to sulfur ratio on the graphite morphology and estimation of the ranges of this ratio use to produce graphite cast iron at different section sections. The main factors affecting shape of graphite cast iron are the metallurgical structures and the section thicknesses. Cast iron of different shapes of graphite particles directly affect its thermo-mechanical properties. The nodular shape of these graphite particles such as in ductile cas...
The effect of potassium hydroxide on the polymerization of trichlorophenol, pyrrole and thiophene by microwave initiation
Güngör (Ünsal), Müfide Elif; Kısakürek, Duygu; Department of Chemistry (2008)
The synthesis of black conducting polymer (CP) and/or crosslinked polymers (CLP) and/or radical ion polymer (RIP) and/or white polymers (WP) and/or orange polymer (OP) were achieved by using KOH with TCP, pyrrole and thiophene via microwave energy in a very short time interval. Polymerizations were carried out by constant microwave energy with different time intervals varying from 1 to 25 min; or at constant time intervals with variation of microwave energy from 90 to 900 watt; or varying the water content ...
THE EFFECT OF A 3RD COMPONENT IMPURITY-C ON THE HEAT-CAPACITY OF A3B-TYPE ORDERED ALLOYS
Mehrabov, Amdulla; MATYSINA, ZA (Wiley, 1989-12-01)
For the first time theoretical (in terms of the classical theory of ordering) and experimental (with the adiabatic calorimeter method) investigations are made of the effect of a third component impurity C on the heat capacity of A3B‐type ordered alloys with FCC structure. The effect of the impurities Mn, Cr, Mo, or W on the heat capacity of Ni3Fe alloys is analysed as an example. The comparison of the theoretical results with the experimental data shows good qualitative agreement.
The effect of triethanolamine on thermal decomposition of GAP
Fazhoğlu, Hatice; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2002-01-01)
The effect of triethanolamine (TEA) on thermal behavior of glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) has been investigated by direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry technique. It has been observed that thermal degradation of GAP-TEA mixture also begins with the cleavage of the side groups as in the case of GAP. Again, the main decomposition started with the elimination of molecular nitrogen from the azide functional group, and a quite similar degradation mechanism has been proposed. The increase in the thermal stability of ...
