Biochemical analysis of trehalose and its metabolizing enzymes in wheat under abiotic stress conditions
El-Bashiti, T; Hamamcı, Haluk; Öktem, Hüseyin Avni; Yucel, M (2005-07-01)
In this study, three wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.) Tosun, Bolal (stress tolerant) and Cakmak (stress sensitive) were analysed for the presence of trehalose. Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, trehalose was unambiguously identified in extracts from seeds and seedlings of different wheat cultivars. The trehalose amount was quantified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) connected with refractive index detector. Effects of drought and salt stress on trehalose cont...
Biochemical and Molecular Characterization of Strontium-resistant Environmental Isolates of Pseudomonas fluorescens and Sphingomonas paucimobilis
Ozer, Gamze; Ergene, Aysun; İçgen, Bülent (Informa UK Limited, 2013-03-13)
Strontium resistance was investigated in strains isolated from the river Kzlrmak which has been affected by industrial and agricultural heavy metal pollution from the surrounding facilities and domestic effluents from the city Krkkale, Turkey. Strontium-resistant isolates with a minimal inhibitory concentration of 2000mg L-1 were isolated and identified as Pseudomonas fluorescens and Sphingomonas paucimobilis. Both isolates were shown to be resistant to other heavy metals like aluminum, lithium, barium, nic...

Biochemical and genetic studies on the pyruvate branch point enzymes of rhizopus oryzae
Açar, Şeyda; Hamamcı, Haluk; Department of Biotechnology (2004)
Rhizopus oryzae is a filamentous fungi which produces lactic acid and ethanol in fermentations. R. oryzae has numerous advantages for use industrial production of L-(+)-lactic acid but the yield of lactic acid produced on the basis of carbon consumed is low. Metabolic flux analysis of R. oryzae has shown that most of the pyruvate produced at the end of the glycolysis is channelled to ethanol, acetyl-CoA and oxaloacetate production. This study aimed to answer some questions addressed on the regulation of pyr...
