A Study on portal composition and its contribution to façade design in Anatolian Seljuk buldings
Caner, Çağla; Bakırer, Ömür; Department of Architecture (2002)
The forms, articulation and compositions of the facades of the monumental buildings displayed a recognizable character during the era of the Anatolian Seljuks in Asia Minor. Even though no two facades appear to be the same with their constitutive elements and with the articulation in their compositions, they seem to attain remarkable similarities. Within the general formulation of the facade compositions, the gateways namely the portals (taçkapı) come forth to reflect the architectural facade concepts of th...

A Survey Of Turbine-Type Water-Mills In The Bolu Region Of The Central Anatolian Plateau
Danışman, H.H.Günhan (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 1977)
The problem of early water-mills, both as important implements of food production on a commercial or industrial scale for urban cultures, as distinct from individual food production instruments of peasant cultures, and in their impact as a revolutionizing advancement in technology, in the form of the rotary mill in which the first major application of rotary motion has taken place since the invention of the potter's wheel and the lathe during the Bronze Ages of the Near East, has preoccupied the scholars of...
A statistical study on geometrical properties of turkish reinforced concrete building stock
Eroğlu Azak, Tuba; Ay, Bekir Özer; Akkar, Dede Sinan (null; 2014-08-29)
Vulnerability assessment of building stocks is one of the major concerns in earthquake prone areas such as Turkey. Recent earthquakes have shown that identification of seismic hazard, reliable estimation of seismic vulnerability, and proactive interventions are of prime importance in terms of seismic risk mitigation. The success of the seismic risk assessment relies on the accuracy of its components particularly on estimation of fragility of buildings...
A comparative study of force-deformation relationship of FRP-confined concrete columns
Erdil, Barış; Akyüz, Uğurhan; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Irfanoglu, A. (null; 2011-10-26)
In this study, the FRP-confined concrete models for prismatic members given in the ACI440.2R-08 and Turkish Earthquake Code (TEC2007) are compared with the experimental data taken from the literature. It is found that TEC2007 assumes only hardening behavior for concrete strengthened with FRP. Although ACI440.2R-08 assumes a hardening and softening behavior depending on the confinement-effectiveness, the limit separating the hardening and softening must be improved to predict the behavior well. The assumptio...
