Antenna array feed network topology determination with frequency bandwidth considerations

2003-09-01
Frequency bandwidths of feed network topologies are discussed. Focus is on the impedance match and comments are for phase distribution. Analysis indicates an optimum sub array size for wideband operation of the feed structure when there are practical limitations on realizable characteristic impedances.

Circular arrays of log-periodic antennas for broadband applications
Ergül, Özgür Salih (2006-11-10)
Circular arrays of log-periodic (LP) antennas are designed for broadband applications. A sophisticated electromagnetic simulation environment involving integral equations and fast solvers is developed to analyze the LP arrays both accurately and efficienuy. The resulting matrix equation obtained by the discretization of the electric field integral equation is solved iteratively via the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). Genetic algorithms interacting with MLFMA is employed to optimize the excitati...
Performance of IRI-based ionospheric critical frequency calculations with reference to forecasting
ÜNAL, İBRAHİM; Senalp, Erdem Turker; YEŞİL, ALİ; Tulunay, Ersin; Tulunay, Yurdanur (American Geophysical Union (AGU), 2011-01-27)
Ionospheric critical frequency (foF2) is an important ionospheric parameter in telecommunication. Ionospheric processes are highly nonlinear and time varying. Thus, mathematical modeling based on physical principles is extremely difficult if not impossible. The authors forecast foF2 values by using neural networks and, in parallel, they calculate foF2 values based on the IRI model. The foF2 values were forecast 1 h in advance by using the Middle East Technical University Neural Network model (METU-NN) and t...
Event-driven MAC Protocol For Dual-Radio Cooperation
Khatibi, Arash; Durmus, Yunus; Onur, Ertan; Niemegeers, Ignas (2012-01-01)
One of the sources of the energy waste in wireless sensor networks is idle listening, the time in which a node monitors the free channel. In applications where the events occur sporadically, energy consumption due to idle listening can be further reduced by dual-radio cooperation. In dual-radio cooperation, nodes in the network have two stacks. One stack makes use of a low-power wake-up radio for event-driven communication over the main radio. The other stack may employ any sensor networking medium access c...
Cooperative Broadcasting with Successive Refinement based Compression
Yildirim, Seckin Anil; Yüksel Turgut, Ayşe Melda (2013-01-01)
As a new achievability scheme, successive refinement coding based compress-and-forward relaying (sCF) is proposed for both discrete memoryless and Gaussian broadcast relay channels (BRC) with one source, two destinations and a dedicated relay. A new outer bound is also provided on the capacity region of physically degraded BRC. Then, the achievability scheme is extended to K-destinations. For the Gaussian BRC, it is shown that the sCF rate region outperforms other CF schemes in the literature. Finally, it i...
Mutual coupling calibration of antenna arrays for direction-of-arrival estimation
Aksoy, Taylan; Tuncer, Temel Engin; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
An antenna array is an indispensable portion of a direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation operation. A number of error sources in the arrays degrade the DOA estimation accuracy. Mutual coupling effect is one of the main error sources and should be corrected for any antenna array. In this thesis, a system theoretic approach is presented for mutual coupling characterization of antenna arrays. In this approach, the idea is to model the mutual coupling effect through a simple linear transformation between the mea...
