In research and business areas, location-based services have become a trending subject. With the increasing popularity of social networks and online communities, group recommendation systems arise in order to support users to interact with those having similar interests, and to provide recommendations for joint activities, such as eating out as a group or seeing a movie with friends. However, the techniques and approaches to provide recommendations to groups are limited, as most of the available studies focus on individual recommendations. In this study, the problem of recommending venues to a group of users is addressed by employing Random Walk with Restart (RWR) algorithm to generate recommendations based on the current location of group members, experts and trusted users visiting the same venues. A new approach is proposed by including the trust factor of users in location-based social networks (LBSNs). The first one aggregates the location recommendations that are generated with the Random Walk algorithm for each member in the group, taking the preferences and objectivity scores of the individuals into account. The second one is based on creating a group profile by blending preferences and venue category types, and using this group profile to run the Random Walk algorithm once. Comprehensive experiments have been performed on different group sizes, and including trust factor of users. The analysis is conducted on the data collected from the location based social network platform Foursquare. The experiments have shown that the trust factor of users improves the performance of group recommendation system and the proposed algorithm provides recommendations to groups with high accuracy compared to the baselines.

Emerging collaborative technologies and working methods often require tremendous engineering and organisational efforts for successful implementation of information and communication technologies (ICTs). According to a research conducted in Turkish construction industry, most of the problems that occur during the construction phase are due to lack of co-operation and communication between designers and contractors and lack of prompt expert decisions during on-site engineering. Similar to any major construct...
Increasing role of services in competitive power and innovativeness of firms and industrial clusters
Eraydın, Ayda (2007-01-01)
The aim of this paper is to discuss the importance of different types of global services for industrial firms and clusters in terms of their economic competitiveness and innovative performance. The theoretical debates argue that globalization, deregulation and the new production organization make it necessary to use global services that are supplied easily with the help of new telecommunication technologies. The existing empirical studies provide some supporting evidence. However, they also indicate that gl...

Providing automated and networked solutions on the cloud will remarkably facilitate ongoing digitalization efforts in Metrology and the calibration industry. The AutoRFPower application was developed to automate the RF power measurement process and uncertainty calculations. This study presents our ongoing research on moving this application to a cloud environment and adapting it to perform power sensor calibrations. The cloud-based application initiates communication with calibration equipment, transfers te...

Kavas (Dülger), Nihan; Erdil, Erkan; Department of Science and Technology Policy Studies (2006)
Over the recent years, the learning capacity and knowledge creation ability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been increasingly highlighted. Cluster concept represents as a geographical agglomeration where SMEs overcome the structural constraint and develop inter-firm relationships based on the trust. The trust based inter-firm relations increase the opportunity of SMEs to establish cooperation and competition linkages. The present study investigated SMEs in textile sector to identify the in...
Sustainability-oriented innovation system analyses of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Turkey and Singapore
Kılkış, Şiir (2016-09-01)
The coherency of research, development, and innovation processes are vital in promoting a more resource efficient society. Sustainability-oriented innovation systems define specific kinds of innovation systems, i.e. those that are directed to the aims of sustainable development. This paper develops an integrated method with four layers of analysis to evaluate the priorities and performances of such systems. The method is applied to a sample of emerging and innovation based economies, namely Brazil, Russia, ...
