In this study, the signal enhancement in the vicinity of metal nanowires was investigated by using a specific spectroscopic technique called surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). When laser light interacts with roughened or nanostructured metallic surfaces, the interaction causes an increase in electromagnetic field in Raman spectra due to the excitation of surface plasmons in metallic nanostructures. This several orders of signal enhancement provides sensitive detection limits of extremely small amounts and concentrations of analyte including structural and quantitative information about the molecules through the characteristic peaks of Raman spectrum. The aim of this work is to synthesize SERS-active substrates by using silver nanowires (Ag NWs) as filter for rapid pathogen detection and characterization in fluids with high sensitivity and specificity. Plasmonic silver nanowires are produced by polyol process using polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as surfactant. Silver nanowire filter foils were fabricated from Ag nanowire solution followed by vacuum filtration onto a hydrophilic polycarbonate filter paper (TETP) membrane. In order to analyze the effect of the presence of PVP on SERS measurments, the developed PVP-capped Ag NW filter foils were processed with laser and chemical treatments to decrease thickness of PVP for the purpose of achieving a higher enhancement factor (EF). As a result of this study, the corresponding enhancement factor (EF) ranges and SERS signal intensities were be obtained by using probe molecules crystal violet (CV) and brilliant cresyl blue (BCB).

The infrared reflectivity and transmittance and Raman scattering in Ga3InSe4 layered crystals were investigated in the frequency ranges of 100-400, 400-4000 and 25-500 cm(-1). The refractive and absorption indices, the frequencies of transverse and longitudinal optical modes, high- and low-frequency dielectric constants were obtained from the analysis of the IR reflectivity spectra.
