Grid impedance estimation based adaptive controller design for back-to-back wind turbine power converters for stable operation in distorted and weak grid
Temiz, Hakan; Keysan, Ozan; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
This thesis involves grid impedance estimation based adaptive controller design for back-to-back wind turbine power converters for stable operation in distorted and weak grid. The study focuses on the low frequency harmonic elimination of injected current to the grid under distorted grid conditions and maintaining system stability under wide range of grid impedance values for Voltage Source Inverters (VSIs) connected to the grid via LCL filter. To eliminate 5th and 7th harmonics of the injected current, a c...

GRID RESILIENCY ISSUES WITH A HYBRID SOLAR-BATTERY SYSTEM
Zia, Moaz; Fahrioğlu, Murat; Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2021-8-20)
Harmonics are one of the main power quality issues which needs to be addressed while designing a microgrid. If harmonics are present in the system, they can cause the load to malfunction and damage. With increasing number of non-linear loads and integration of distributed generators (DG) into the power system, harmonic mitigation is of paramount importance. There is a lot of work available in literature which deduce the benefits of integrating battery into the microgrid to improve renewable energy source (R...
Vector tracking loop design for GPS receivers
Üzel, Deniz; Baykal, Buyurman; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2016)
This study describes the design of a modern GPS receiver architecture based on vector tracking loops. Since the traditional tracking loops process the signals independently, there is no information exchange between channels. Due to that fact, aiding of weaker signals in the presence of relatively strong signals is impossible. On the other hand, vector tracking loops simultaneously process the signals from all visible channels. Therefore, they are able to perform better than the traditional tracking loops in...
Beam Steerable Traveling Wave Meander Line Antenna Using Varactor Diode for X-Band Applications
Gokalp, Nihan; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem (2008-07-11)
This paper presents a novel beam steerable meander line antenna with varactor diode for X-band applications. Beam steering has been achieved by loading the arms of the meander line antenna with varactor diodes. The capacitances of the varactor diodes have been controlled by DC bias voltage. Instead of varactor diodes, RF-MEMS variable capacitances can be used to scan the beam. Since the insertion loss of MEMS capacitances are small compared to loss of varactor diodes, use of MEMS capacitors will increase th...
