Quality improvement in determination of chemical oxygen demand in samples considered difficult to analyze, through participation in proficiency-testing schemes
Raposo, F.; Fernandez-Cegri, V.; De la Rubia, M. A.; Borja, R.; Beltran, J.; Cavinato, C.; Clinckspoor, M.; Demirer, Göksel Niyazi; Diamadopoulos, E.; Frigon, J. C.; Koubova, J.; Launay, M.; Mendez, R.; Menin, G.; Noguerol, J.; Uellehdahl, H.; West, S. (Elsevier BV, 2010-10-01)
Chemical oxygen demand (COD) is a critical analytical parameter in waste and wastewater treatment, more specifically in anaerobic digestion, although little is known about the quality of measuring COD of anaerobic digestion samples. Proficiency testing (PT) is a powerful tool that can be used to test the performance achievable in the participants' laboratories, so we carried out a second PT of COD determination in samples considered "difficult" to analyze (i.e. solid samples and liquid samples with high con...
Quality Factor Enhancement of Lateral Microresonators in Liquid Media by Hydrophobic Coating
Eroglu, Deniz; Külah, Haluk (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2011-10-01)
In this letter, a new method of improving the quality factor of microresonators inside liquids is presented. By utilizing a conformally coated thin layer of parylene, which is highly hydrophobic, we trap air between the narrow gaps of a lateral resonator and prevent liquids from entering the gaps, thus preventing the viscous damping increase on the side surfaces. Initial tests with capacitive comb drives show that the quality factor decreases only threefold (from 157 to 55) when the device is operated in wa...
Quality assessment of the potential armourstones for the Helaldi rubble mound breakwater (Sinop- Turkey)

Quality control charts for storage of raisins and dried figs
Ozilgen, M; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Emir, H; Emir, F (1997-01-01)
Shewhart control charts are constructed by using the Hunter Lab color scale parameters to assure maintenance of the color of raisins and dried figs during storage in modified atmosphere packages, vacuum packages, or nylon bags. These control charts may be used to maintain the quality within acceptable limits and make it possible to readjust storage conditions if the acceptable limits should be violated.
Quality Assessment of the Armourstones for Some Black Sea Rubble Mound Breakwaters, Turkey
Ozden, U. A.; Topal, Tamer (2007-01-01)
The Black Sea coastline is a hazardous region in Turkey, especially in winter, due to the dominant wave action. Therefore, rubble mound breakwaters used as ship shelters are vital structures, especially for the fishermen. Construction of the breakwater requires good quality, durable armourstones. Due to the nature of the rubble mound breakwaters, armourstones of various sizes and types are used in the construction of these structures. The deterioration of these armourstones with time may result in the failu...
