© 2022 Elsevier B.V.In recent years few blockchain based progress payment methods have been proposed to improve the traditional payment process for construction projects. The blockchain based methods require the off-chain real world information to be connected to the blockchain which could be challenging for construction projects. This paper presents a novel building information modeling (BIM) integrated smart contract progress payment administration system, in which as-constructed BIM is used to link the real world with the blockchain. Results of a survey of construction professionals revealed that the proposed system has a significant potential for improving the traditional payment procedure by accelerating the process and by making the progress payments less prone to disputes, especially for lump sum projects. The results also indicate the potential of future research on semi-autonomous BIM integrated smart contract systems to accelerate the adoption of the BIM and smart contract technologies for progress payment administration within the construction sector.

Smart contract systems for guaranteed and timely payment of construction projects
Ahmadisheykhsarmast, Salar; Sönmez, Rifat; Department of Civil Engineering (2020)
Delay in progress payment is a widespread problem in the construction industry which adversely affects the entire processes of the projects. Difficulties in the cashflow of the contracts, and consequently the subcontractors are the main consequences of delayed payments. Despite its significance, few research focused on development of methods guaranteeing timely payments of the participants throughout the project. Recent developments in blockchain and smart contract technologies presents a potential for deve...
Vulnerability Detection on Solidity Smart Contracts by Using Convolutional Neural Networks
BEKTAŞ, Barış Cem; Acar, Aybar Can; Acar, Aybar Can; Department of Cybersecurity (2023-2-01)
Smart contracts, which are self executing contracts with the terms of the agreement between buyer and seller being directly written into lines of code, have the potential to revolutionize many industries by automating complex processes and reducing the need for intermediaries. However, the immutability of smart contracts also means that vulnerabilities cannot be easily fixed once they are deployed, making it crucial to detect and prevent vulnerabilities before deployment. In this project, we focus on the pr...
BIM-CAREM: a reference model for building information modelling capability assessment
Yılmaz, Gökçen; Akçamete Güngör, Aslı; Department of Information Systems (2017)
Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been implemented by various Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Facilities Management (AEC/FM) firms in various countries due to inefficiencies in traditional construction project management practices. AEC/FM organization require to gauge the effectiveness of their BIM implementations for measuring their performance and enabling continuous improvement in BIM usage. Therefore, various BIM capability and maturity models are developed to help organizations achie...

This paper aims to develop a novel algorithm based on all contractual and technical real-world constraints for a gas import/wholesale company in the concept of flexibility. The Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP) is applied to a portfolio of contracts to produce the optimal amount of purchases pipeline natural gas (PNG) agreements, spot natural gas purchases, natural gas storage use levels and Session IV (16:00-17:30) – ENERGY & FINANCE 18 LNG purchases based on a real life case under various commitments s...
Creating smart construction contracts structure with the help of building information modelling
Erkenek, Avo Baran; Pekeriçli, Mehmet Koray; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2022-8-29)
The number of countries where BIM is mandatory to be used in projects is increasing day by day because of its data intensive structure. In addition to improving coordination and collaboration in the projects, BIM helps the stakeholders to visualize the project and make more accurate estimations at the preconstruction stage. In the process, some of the problems previously encountered are solved by adapting BIM system into the project but there are still many problems to be solved by using other technologies ...
