Simulation of circulating fluidized bed combustors
Göğebakan, Yusuf; Selçuk, Nevin; Department of Chemical Engineering (2006)
A dynamic mathematical model for simulation of atmospheric circulating fluidized bed combustors has been developed on the basis of first principles and empirical correlations. The model accounts for dense and dilute zone hydrodynamics, volatiles release and combustion, char particles combustion and their size distribution, and heat transfer from/to gas, particles, waterwalls and refractory. Inputs to the model include configuration and dimensions of the combustor and its internals, air and coal flows, coal ...

SIMULATION OF FLUID SLOSHING FOR DECREASING THE RESPONSE OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS
VURUSKAN, Ilker; Sert, Cüneyt; Ozer, Mehmet Bulent (2014-06-27)
In the last decade, there is a renewed interest in the integration of a sloshing tank into structural systems to decrease the vibrations of the structure. The purpose of this study is to try different numerical simulation programs for further use in studies in evaluation of the effectiveness of the sloshing tank absorbers for structural systems. The programs chosen for sloshing simulations are COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS CFX and ANSYS-FLUENT. In the numerical simulations, the free surface shape during sloshi...
Simulation of Rapidly Maneuvering Airfoils with Synthetic Jet Actuators
Jee, SolKeun; Lopez Mejia, Omar D.; Moser, Robert D.; Muse, Jonathan A.; Kutay, Ali Türker; Calise, Anthony J. (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), 2013-08-01)
Synthetic jet actuators are investigated for rapidly maneuvering airfoils that are regulated by a closed-loop control system. To support active flow-control simulations performed here, the closed-loop system and vehicle dynamics are coupled with computational fluid dynamics. High-frequency sinusoidal pitching simulations with and without synthetic jet actuation indicate that the current synthetic jet actuators provide bidirectional change in aerodynamic forces during rapid maneuvers whose time scales are of...
