Age and geodynamic evolution of the Black Sea Basin: Tectonic evidences of rifting in Crimea
Hippolyte, Jean-Claude; Murovskaya, Anna; Volfman, Yuri; Yegorova, Tamara; Gintov, Oleg; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; SANĞU, ERCAN (2018-05-01)
The timing and direction of opening of the Black Sea Basin are debated. However, parts of its margins were inverted during Cenozoic and can be studied onshore. The Crimean Mountains are located in the middle of the northern margin of the basin, and at the onshore prolongation of the mid-Black Sea High.
Age and mantle sources of Quaternary basalts associated with "leaky" transform faults of the migrating Anatolia-Arabia-Africa triple junction
Cosca, Michael A.; Reid, Mary; Delphi, Jonathan R.; KUŞCU, GONCA; Blichert-Toft, Janne; Premo, Wayne; Whitney, Donna L.; Teyssier, Christian; Rojay, Fuat Bora (2021-02-01)
The Anatolia (Eurasia), Arabia, and Africa tectonic plates intersect in southeast Turkey, near the Gulf of Iskenderun, forming a tectonically active and unstable triple junction (the A(3) triple junction). The plate boundaries are marked by broad zones of major, dominantly left-lateral transform faults including the East Anatolian fault zone (the Anatolia-Arabia boundary) and the Dead Sea fault zone (the Arabia-Africa boundary). Quaternary basalts occur locally within these "leaky" transform fault zones (si...
AGE AND GEOCHEMISTRY OF BASALT-CHERT ASSOCIATIONS IN THE OPHIOLITES OF THE IZMIR-ANKARA MELANGE EAST OF ANKARA, TURKEY: PRELIMINARY DATA
Bortolotti, Valerio; Chiari, Marco; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal; Marcucci, Marta; Principi, Gianfranco; TEKİN, UĞUR KAĞAN; Saccani, Emilio; Tassinari, Renzo (2013-12-01)
In this paper, we present the preliminary data on the age of the radiolarian cherts deposited on top of basalts belonging to the Eastern Ankara Melange (part of the Izmir-Ankara Melange). Petrological studies on the basalts were carried out in order to constrain the tectonic setting of the studied basalt-chert sequences. Nine sections were sampled East and Northeast of Ankara and twenty seven samples were collected for biostratigraphic and geochemical analyses.
Afyon zonu örtü birimlerinin yaşı ve tektonikönemi u pb kırıntılı zirkon jeokronolojisi
Bozkurt, Erdin (TMMOB Jeoloji Mühendisleri Odası; 2016-04-11)
Afyon Zone in the Anatolide-Tauride block is represented by a Pan-African metamorphic basement and unconformably overlying lower Triassic-lower Tertiary low-grade metamorphic cover rocks. The cover sequences commences with a thick basal metaconglomerate. It comprises two distinct lithologies, characterized by quartz pebbles and carbonate pebbles, and grades into a wine red-purple-reddish-gray-mottled metaclastic sequence, made up of a sandstone-shale-mudstone and quartzite alternation. The grain size decrea...
Age and tectonomagmatic setting of the Eocene Copler-Kabatas magmatic complex and porphyry-epithermal Au deposit, East Central Anatolia, Turkey
İmer, Ali; Creaser, Robert A. (2013-06-01)
The Copler epithermal Au deposit and related subeconomic porphyry Cu-Au deposit is hosted by the middle Eocene Copler-KabataAY magmatic complex in central eastern Anatolia. The intrusive rocks of the complex were emplaced into Late Paleozoic-Mesozoic metamorphosed sedimentary basement rocks near the northeastern margin of the Tauride-Anatolide Block. Igneous biotite from two samples of the magmatic complex yielded Ar-40/Ar-39 plateau ages of 43.75 +/- 0.26 Ma and 44.19 +/- 0.23, whereas igneous hornblende f...
