Combined effect of fructose and NaCl on the viscosity of alumina nanopowder suspensions
Çınar, Simge; Akinc, Mufit (2015-01-01)
Many ceramic processing operations involving powder suspensions aim to optimize the solids loading while maintaining low viscosity. Use of nanopowder suspensions are challenging as they exhibit unexpectedly high viscosities. Low molecular weight saccharides were added to decrease the viscosities of alumina nanopowder suspensions as they modify effective solids content. It was also recently reported that suspensions with very low ionic strengths exhibit lower viscosities as they create high repulsive barrier...
Combined effects of Cu2+ and Zn2+ on activated sludge process
Beyenal, NY; Ozbelge, TA; Özbelge, Hilmi Önder (1997-04-01)
The aim of this study is to investigate the combined effects of Cu2+ and Zn2+ in a synthetic wastewater (WW) on activated sludge process (ASP) over a wide range of mean cell residence times. Experiments were performed in two phases: (i) experiments without heavy metals (HMs), (ii) experiments with HMs using acclimated microorganisms (MOs). In the first phase, biokinetic constants of the synthetic WW inoculated with seed MOs were determined and a linear relationship between substrate removal efficiency and m...
Combined effects of Ni(II) and Cr(VI) on activated sludge
Dilek, Filiz Bengü; Yetiş, Ülkü (1998-02-01)
The combined effects of Ni(II) and Cr(VI) on activated sludge kinetics were studied in this paper. The metals were added to a synthetic medium with a chemical oxygen demand (GOD) of 1300 mgl(-1) to give various combinations of Ni(II) and Cr(VI). Activated sludge performance, in terms of COD removal, was not adversely affected in an acclimatized culture by the metal combinations, compared with the single metals. The combination effects of Ni!II) and Cr(VI)on biokinetic constants, i.e. the maximum specific gr...
Combined effects of ALS and SLS on Al2O3 reinforced composite nickel coatings
Yılmaz, Olgun; Karakaya, I. (Informa UK Limited, 2020-05-03)
The mechanical and tribological properties of electrochemical coatings can be enhanced by the embedded second phase particles to nickel matrix. Two different anionic surfactants sodium dodecyl sulfate and ammonium lignosulfonate were used together to adjust the wetting conditions and provide the suspension of Al2O3 particles in a nickel sulfamate electrolyte in this study. The effects of current density and amounts of the two surfactants on wear rate, coefficient of friction, and hardness were studied. It w...
