The mechanical and tribological properties of electrochemical coatings can be enhanced by the embedded second phase particles to nickel matrix. Two different anionic surfactants sodium dodecyl sulfate and ammonium lignosulfonate were used together to adjust the wetting conditions and provide the suspension of Al2O3 particles in a nickel sulfamate electrolyte in this study. The effects of current density and amounts of the two surfactants on wear rate, coefficient of friction, and hardness were studied. It was found that the amount of incorporated Al2O3 dominantly affected the properties of coatings which could be controlled by adjusting the operating parameters.

Study of high radio frequency plasma discharge effects on carbon fiber using Raman spectroscopy
Akbar, D.; Erözbek Güngör, Ümmügül (Elsevier BV, 2014-02-15)
The goal of this research is to evaluate the potential of single and dual high RF reactors for the treatment of carbon fiber by Raman and FT-IR spectroscopies. Unsized poly-acrylonitrile (PAN) carbon fiber was treated with single high frequency (40.68 MHz) and double radio frequency capacitively coupled plasma (RF-CCP) discharge reactor (40.68/2.1 MHz) using pure nitrogen gas. The changes in the structure of the carbon fiber surfaces due to the variations of the D and G band intensity ratio (I-D/I-G), cryst...
Robust Covalent Coupling Scheme for the Development of FRET Aptasensor based on Amino-Silane-Modified Graphene Oxide
Kahyaoğlu, Leyla Nesrin (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2018-12-04)
In recent years, numerous aptamers have been physisorbed on graphene oxide (GO) to develop fluorescence resonance energy transfer-based aptasensors using the fluorescence quenching property of GO. However, physisorbed aptasensors show poor signal reversibility and reproducibility as well as nonspecific probe displacement, and thereby are not suitable for many analytical applications. To overcome these problems when working with complex biological samples, we developed a facile and robust covalent surface fu...
Atomic and electronic structure of rigid carbon atomic chains
Usanmaz, D.; Srivastava, G. P. (Wiley, 2012-09-01)
We have reported, from ab initio calculations, on the changes in the electronic and structural properties of short carbon atomic chains held rigidly between hydrogenated armchair graphene nanoribbons (AGNR) and zig-zag graphene nanoribbons (ZGNR). Several lengths (N?=?29 atoms) and forms of the chains have been considered. All models are found to be metallic in nature, with chemical bonding more like $\cdots {\rm C}- {\rm C}\equiv {\rm C}- {\rm C}\equiv {\rm C}\cdots $ (as in polyyne) for odd-numbered chain...
Indium tin oxide nanoparticles as anode for light-emitting diodes
Çırpan, Ali (Wiley, 2006-02-15)
Thin films of indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles have been investigated as anode materials for polymer light-emitting diodes. A luminance efficiency (0.13 cd/ A), higher than that (0.09 cd/A) obtained in a control devices fabricated on conventional commercial ITO anodes were found. The thin films were made by spin coating of a suspension followed by annealing. The ITO nartoparticle films have a stable sheet resistance of 200 ohm/sq, and an optical transmittance greater than 86% over the range of 400-1000 ...
Synthesis of TiB2-reinforced iron-based composite coating
YILMAZ, SEVAL; Ozenbas, M.; YAZ, Mehmet (Elsevier BV, 2009-08-01)
Titanium diboride (TiB2) particulate reinforced Fe-based alloy composite coating was produced with ferrotitaniurn (FeTi), ferroboron (FeB), ferrotungsten (FeW), ferrochromium (FeCr), ferrovanadium (FeV) and ferromolybdenum (FeMo) powders by using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process. The effects of GTAW processing on the microstructure of AISI-4340 alloy coating with ferro-alloy powders were investigated experimentally. Abrasive wear tests were performed on the coated surface of samples to examine the in...
