© 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LondonThe effect of equivalent pile length or moment gradient on the low cycle fatigue performance of steel H-piles is investigated by performing comparable tests on the HP steel sections having same dimensions, but different lengths of piles. For this purpose, the equivalent pile length used in this study is determined as 1.30 m and 1.90 m for HP220x57. To investigate the effect of equivalent pile length or moment gradient on the low cycle fatigue performance of steel H-piles, the HP 220x57 specimens having 1.30 m and 1.90 m length are tested under same loading conditions. Comparisons between experimental test results are made in terms of equivalent length in the steel H-pile specimens for various lateral load values. It is observed that larger moment gradient (or shorter equivalent length of pile) has an adverse effect on the low cycle fatigue performance of steel H-piles.

Effect of pile orientation on the fatigue performance of jointless bridge H-piles subjected to cyclic flexural strains
Karalar, Memduh; Dicleli, Murat (2023-02-01)
This paper explores the effect of pile orientation on the low cycle fatigue (LCF) performance of steel H–piles (SPs) at jointless bridge (JB) abutments via experimental testing and finite element simulation. The experimental testing program includes 42 full scale SP specimens subjected to strong axis (SA) and weak axis (WA) bending. The SPs are tested under cyclic displacement reversals mimicking the thermal induced displacement cycles associated with the seasonal elongation and contraction of the JB in the...
Effect of ground on aerodynamics and longitudinal static stability of a non-slender delta wing
Koçak, Göktuğ; Yavuz, Mehmet Metin (2022-11-01)
© 2022 Elsevier Masson SASIn this paper, the effect of ground on aerodynamics and longitudinal static stability of a non-slender delta wing with sweep angle of 45 degree and thickness-to-chord ratio (t/c) of 5.9% was characterized at Reynolds number of 9×104 in a low-speed wind tunnel using force and pressure measurements. The measurements were conducted for angles of attack varying between 0≤α≤30 degrees and non-dimensional heights between 3%≤h/c≤107% and height stability of the wing based on aerodynamic c...
Effect of gap distance on the mechanical properties and cross-sectional characteristics of the MIG-MAG butt wells
Kaşıkçı, İlker; Ankara, Osman Alpay; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2003)
This study was undertaken with the objective of determining the effect of gap distance on the weld bead geometry and the mechanical properties of the weldments. Low-alloyed and low carbon steel plates were welded under different conditions where each weldment had different gap distance and weld bead grooves. The influences of welding parameters namely, welding speed, current and voltage on the weld bead were examined in terms of weld bead penetration and heat affected zone and weld metal zone hardness varia...
Effect of longitudinal stiffeners on the flanges to improve the low cycle fatigue performance of steel H-piles
Dicleli, Murat (null; 2015-09-23)
In this study, the effect of stiffeners on the low cycle fatigue life of steel H-piles in integral bridges is investigated to prevent local buckling occurring at high strain amplitudes. For this purpose, experimental testing of a number of regular and stiffened steel H-piles under cyclic displacement reversals is conducted. Then, to compare experiment results with the finite element model for the HP220x57 steel specimen, finite element model is constructed similarly according to actual HP220x57 steel specim...
Effect of stress ratio on the rate of growth of fatigue cracks in 1100 Al-alloy
Bilir, Ömer.G.; Harun, Metin (Elsevier BV, 1990-1)
Axial load fatigue crack propagation tests were conducted on notched sheet specimens made of 1100 aluminum alloy. These tests were made at stress ratios (ratio of the minimum stress to the maximum stress) ranging from −0.5 to 0.5 in order to study the effects of stress ratio on fatigue crack growth. Experimental fatigue crack propagation data were analysed using Paris-Erdoǧan stress intensity analysis. The data from the tests at different stress ratios showed that two regions, namely, region I and region I...
