In this research paper, we propose a method to examine the policy and legal framework for solar heat in industrial processes with a comparative analysis of Germany and Turkey. To enable industry actors to make use of the large growth potential of SHIP with its numerous potential application areas, targeted policies and legislation must be adopted. For this reason, this research paper aims at filling the respective gap to analyzing and designing renewable energy law and policy framework for SHIP with a proposed method. In a comparative analysis, it explores potential approaches to promote SHIP in Turkey and Germany. To this end, the paper proposes a method based on three research milestones of (i) the current extent of deployment of SHIP in both countries, (ii)the current status of SHIP policy and law in both countries, and (iii) SHIP policy proposals for both countries. To conclude, a step-by-step policy proposal method is described to make policy and law analyses based on a comparative country approach.

THE ROLE OF COMMUNITY ENERGY PLANNING IN DECENTRALIZATION POLICIES OF TURKEY
Erkan, Esengül; Senol Balaban, Meltem; Department of Urban Policy Planning and Local Governments (2022-1-27)
The thesis examines the applications of renewable energy towards community energy as an urban policy in the local governments of Turkey. A comprehensive study was conducted on the energy production and consumption from renewable energy in the world and in Turkey, and the increase in global renewable energy activities in recent years was discussed together with issues such as climate crisis and localization. In the discussions on political, administrative, and financial decentralization and privatization pol...
Integration of solar energy and industrial waste heat into an industrial zone with heat distribution networkand optimization of energy sources for units
Karımı, Sasan; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
In the context of European Union INSHIP (Integrating National Research Agendas on Solar Heat for Industrial Process) project, solar energy and industrial waste heat integration into two food industry Units are simulated and optimized in Izmir, Turkey. Two Units could be connected by a Heat Distribution Network (HDN) to share energy between them. Unit’s thermal systems simulation and energy sources optimization is done by TRNSYS and MATLAB respectively, to use both software capabilities. In each time interva...
Theoretical and experimental investigation of a humidification-dehumidification desalination system using solar energy
Solmuş, İsmail; Yamalı, Cemil; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2006)
In this thesis, experimental and numerical studies have been carried out to investigate the performance of a solar desalination system working on humidification-dehumidification principle under the climatological conditions of Ankara, Turkey. The desalination unit was configured mainly by a double-pass flat plate solar air heater with two glass covers, pad humidifier, storage tank and dehumidifying exchanger. The system used in this work is based on the idea of closed water and open air cycles. A computer s...
Supporting renewable energy : the role of incentive mechanisms
Köroğlu Aydınlı, Filiz; Cömert, Hasan; Department of Economics (2013)
This thesis is based on panel data analyses by using one way fixed effects method in order to examine the factors that are effective on the development of renewable energy through putting a special emphasis on the role of incentive mechanisms. Two main groups of countries are employed throughout the empirical work one of which includes OECD countries and the other focuses on 40 countries and five different models are formed underneath these groups that have the natural logarithm of renewable energy share in...
Internal and external dimensions of Russian energy policy between 2000-2012
Yıldırım, Tankut; Tanrısever, Oktay F; Department of Eurasian Studies (2012)
This thesis aims to examine internal and external parameters influencing Russian energy policy between 2000 and 2012. In this respect first energy policy of the Soviet Union and Russian Federation in 1990’s are evaluated. In this framework it is assumed that old experiences and structures have influence on 2000’s Russian Energy Policy. Russian energy profile is accepted not only a strength of Russia but also a source of limitation in Russian energy policy, it influences domestic and foreign energy policies ...
