POTENTIAL-DEPENDENT SURFACE SEGREGATION IN LEAD PLUS RUTHENIUM PYROCHLORE PB2RU2O7-Y

1993-07-01
The effect of anodic polarization on the surface composition of Pb + Ru pyrochlore Pb2Ru2O7-y in acid and acid+alcohol solutions has been studied using cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In acidic solutions the surface is observed to be unstable to oxygen evolution even at reasonably low overpotentials. Lead is found to diffuse from the pyrochlore matrix resulting in the formation of small crystallites of PbO2 on the surface of a mixed Pb + Ru oxide substrate. RuO2 does not appear to form on the surface.

Reported herein is the synthesis of the previously unknown [Ir(1,5-COD)(mu-H)](4) (where 1,5-COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene), from commercially available [Ir(1,5-COD)Cl](2) and LiBEt3H in the presence of excess 1,5-COD in 78% initial, and 55% recrystallized, yield plus its unequivocal characterization via single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy, electrospray/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and UV-vis, IR, and nuclear magnetic...
SURFACE STABILITY OF BISMUTH-RUTHENIUM OXIDE ELECTRODES
Gökağaç Arslan, Gülsün; KENNEDY, BJ (1993-07-01)
The effect of anodic polarization on the surface composition of Bi-Ru oxide, Bi2Ru2O7+y, electrodes in acid solution and acid-alcohol solutions has been studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In acidic solution the surface is unstable under either oxidation or reductive conditions, with Bi being lost from the structure. During electrolysis the surface becomes covered with particles of a Bi oxide species.
EFFECT OF ION ASSOCIATION ON THE PROPERTIES OF IONOMERS OBTAINED FROM METHYL-METHACRYLATE METHACRYLIC-ACID COPOLYMER
KOCAK, HI; ARAS, L (Elsevier BV, 1990-07-01)
The solution behaviour of Na, Ba, Zn and Al ionomers of methyl methacrylate-methacrylic acid copolymer (P(MMA-MAA)) with different ion contents has been studied by viscosity and dipole moment measurements. Two solvents with different character are chosen for viscosity measurements: dioxane (ε = 2.22) and acetone (ε = 20.7). The expected polyelectrolyte behaviour of the ionomers in acetone is reflected by the viscometric measurements. Mean squared dipole moment 〈μ2〉 values are calculated over a temperature r...
Interactions of tamoxifen with distearoyl phosphatidylcholine multilamellar vesicles: FTIR and DSC studies
Bilge, Duygu; ŞAHİN, İPEK; KAZANCI, NADİDE; Severcan, Feride (Elsevier BV, 2014-09-15)
Interactions of a non-steroidal antiestrogen drug, tamoxifen (TAM), with distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine (DSPC) multilamellar liposomes (MLVs) were investigated as a function of drug concentration (1-15 mol%) by using two noninvasive techniques, namely Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). FTIR spectroscopy results show that increasing TAM concentrations (except 1 mol%) increased the wavenumbers of the CH2 stretching modes, implying an disord...
Identification of electron acceptor properties of Penicillium camemberti used for effective treatment of chlorinated organic compounds
Taseli, BK; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (2005-01-01)
Two methods described in this paper use respirometric monitoring of the accumulated oxygen uptake rate, following the addition of bleachery effluents to a reactor containing Penicillium camemberti and detection of inorganic chloride removal by a chloride electrode for electron acceptor identification. In the case of respirometric studies, adsorbable organic halogens (AOX) removal was retarded at high acetate concentrations and the metabolism shifted towards aerobic respiration. Contrary to this, aerobic res...
