© 2022 Elsevier B.V.The linear and nonlinear absorption properties, photoluminescence and optical limiting properties of bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) powders and films were presented in this work. The structural, morphological and optical effects of different doping elements (M: Mo,W and Ni) were investigated (M: BiVO4). XRD and Raman results proved that BiVO4 and M: BiVO4 powders were synthesized in the monoclinic scheelite structure. Twhe powder morphology as found to be changed by Ni and W doping. The nonlinear optical responses of pure and M: BiVO4 were studied using the open aperture Z-scan experiment and a theoretical model was used to determine the nonlinear optical absorption performance. The nonlinear absorption coefficient (βeff) values were found to be 6.59 × 104, 8.86 × 104, 2.26 × 105 and 1.62 × 106 cm/GW for BiVO4, Mo: BiVO4, W: BiVO4 and Ni: BiVO4 nanocomposite films, respectively. The highest nonlinear absorption coefficients (βeff) and saturation intensity thresholds (ISAT) were obtained for Ni:BiVO4 film. Experimental results showed that the βeff value and band gap can be controlled by the dopant element, making doped BiVO4 a good candidate for nonlinear optical applications such as optical limiters, optical switches and modulators in integrated photonic devices.

Wavelength dependence of the nonlinear absorption performance and optical limiting in Bi12TiO20 single crystal
PEPE, YASEMİN; Isik, Mehmet; KARATAY, AHMET; Hasanlı, Nızamı; ELMALI, AYHAN (2023-01-01)
In this study, the influence of excitation wavelength and input intensity on the nonlinear absorption (NA) mechanism and optical limiting behavior of the Bi12TiO20 (BTO) single crystal were reported. The energy band gap of the BTO single crystal was obtained to be 2.38 eV. Urbach energy revealed that the single crystal has a highly defective structure. Open aperture (OA) Z-scan experiments were conducted at 532 and 1064 nm excitation wavelengths at various input intensities. Obtained experimental data were ...
Linear and nonlinear optical properties of Bi12GeO20 single crystal for optoelectronic applications
Isik, M.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2023-01-01)
The present paper aims at presenting linear and nonlinear optical properties of Bi12GeO20 single crystals grown by Czochralski method. Transmission and reflection measurements were performed in the 400-1000 nm region. The recorded spectra were analyzed considering well-known optical models. Spectral dependencies of absorption coefficient, skin depth, refractive index, real and imaginary components of dielectric function were presented. The analyses performed on absorption coefficient showed direct bandgap a...
Dielectric and Thermal Effects on the Optical Properties of Natural Dyes: A Case Study on Solvated Cyanin
Malcıoğlu, Osman Barış; Gebauer, Ralph; Varsano, Daniele; Baroni, Stefano (2011-10-05)
The optical properties of the flavylium state of the cyanin dye are simulated numerically by combining Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics and linear-response time-dependent density functional theory calculations. The spectrum of the dye calculated in the gas phase is characterized by two peaks in the yellow and in the blue (green and violet), using a GGA-PBE (hybrid-B3LYP) DFT functional, which would bring about a greenish (bright orange) color incompatible with the dark purple hue observed in nature. Descri...
Optical characterization of Ga2SeS layered crystals by transmission, reflection and ellipsometry
IŞIK, MEHMET; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2015-07-10)
Optical properties of Ga2SeS crystals grown by Bridgman method were investigated by transmission, reflection and ellipsometry measurements. Analysis of the transmission and reflection measurements performed in the wavelength range of 400-1100 nm at room temperature indicated the presence of indirect and direct transitions with 2.28 eV and 2.38 eV band gap energies. Ellipsometry measurements were carried out in the 1.2-6.0 eV spectral region to get information about optical constants, real and imaginary part...
Optical properties of TlGaxIn1-xS2 layered mixed crystals (0 <= x <= 1) I. Composition- and temperature-tuned energy band gap
Hasanlı, Nızamı (2010-05-28)
Optical properties of the TlGaxIn1-xS2 mixed crystals (0 <= x <= 1) have been studied by means of transmission and reflection measurements in the wavelength range of 400-1100 nm. The optical indirect band gap energies were determined through the analysis of the absorption data. It was found that the energy band gaps increase with increasing of gallium atoms content in the TlGaxIn1-xS2 mixed crystals. From the transmission measurements carried out in the temperature range of 10-300K, the rates of change of t...
