Effect of particle size on resistance to chloride for hydrodechlorination of trichloroethylene in water
Karahan, Selin; Çelik, Gökhan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2022-8)
Contamination of groundwater by chlorinated compounds is an important environmental hazard to humanity because worldwide drinking water demand is generally supplied by groundwater. Chlorinated pollutants, especially trichlorethylene (TCE), are released to the environment due to its frequent use in industrial applications. This highly toxic chemical poses a serious threat to human health and the environment. In this regard, cleaning of groundwater from TCE is of great importance. Catalytic hydrodechlorinatio...
Effect of TiH2 particle size on foaming of aluminium
Kubilay, Ceylan; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2005)
A study is carried out on the production of aluminum foams via powder processing. The study deals mainly with the effect of TiH2 particle size on the process of foaming. Mainly two TiH2 particle sizes were used; namely 27,5 ?m and 8,5 ?m. Foaming experiments were carried out at temperatures between 675oC ا 840oC. The viscosity of the system is adjusted by controlled addition of Al2O3. The study shows that choice of foaming agent size is influential in the foaming process. With the use of fine foaming agent,...
Effect of Fly Ash Fineness on the Activation of Geopolymer Concrete
Aleessa Alam, Burhan; Yaman, İsmail Özgür (2012-10-05)
In the field of construction materials and particularly in concrete, cement is considered as a key element since it generates a strong and durable material through a simple hydration process. However, for many reasons (mainly economic and environmental) researchers are trying to find a new material that could replace cement or at least part of it as a binding agent in concrete. Regarding this issue, cement replacement materials like fly ash and slag have taken the lead during the last few decades. These mat...
EFFECT OF POROSITY ON INTERFACIAL FAILURE IN STEEL-FIBER-REINFORCED POLYMER-IMPREGNATED CONCRETE
Gündüz, Güngör (Elsevier BV, 1988-01-01)
The interfacial bond between a steel fibre and concrete generally increases with the polymer content. Naphthalene used to generate new pores in order t increase the polymer loading and thus to increase the interfacial bond strength has a positive effect up to 3% by weight. Higher amounts weaken the cementitious phase and also decrease the amount of polymer incorporated. Drying of concrete before impregnation at 150°C rather than at 105°C increases the polymer loading and thus the interfacial bond strength. ...
