Deposition of wax on the wall of the crude oil pipelines is regarded as a problem since the pipeline diameter is reduced. Therefore more power is required to force the same amount of crude oil through the system. In this study, a mathematical model is developed for estimation of wax deposition in crude oil pipeline systems. A computer program was developed to simulate wax deposition phenomena. Each component is characterized by weight fraction, heat of fusion and melting point temperature. Temperature profile along the pipeline, solid-liquid equilibrium constant, wax mole fraction and wax thickness along the pipeline were calculated. This computer program was applied to Kirkuk - Ceyhan crude oil pipeline system. It was observed that wax thickness, after a year, is approximately 0.34 mm and temperature declined from 303 K to around 295 K. The wax mole fraction after a year is approximately 0.2225. The solid-liquid equilibrium constant for the first component was around 0.29 and 355 for the second component after a year.

Modeling water quality impacts of petroleum contaminated soils in a reservoir catchment
Ünlü, Kahraman (2000-05-01)
Soil contamination due to spills or leaks of crude oils and refined hydrocarbons is a common problem. Estimation of spill volume is a crucial issue in order to determine the expected contaminating life span of contaminated soils. The direct procedure to determine the amount of hydrocarbon in soil is to measure the concentration of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) in soil samples. The primary objective of this study was to assess the potential effects of oil contaminated soils on the water quality of Devege...
Comparison of Mechanical Behaviour of G Class Cements for different Curing Time
Güner, Doğukan; ÖZTÜRK, HANDE IŞIK (2015-04-17)
Since 1900's, well cementing is one of the most substantial method in casing application of oil, gas and geothermal. The American Petroleum Institute (API) identifies well cements in 8 classes with respect to pressure, temperature and the depth of the well. G class cement is the most commonly used cement type for well casing purpose due to its sulphate resistance ability. High sulphate-resistant (HSR) G class cements are often used in well cementing industry. API Standards mainly focus on uniaxial compressi...
The application of artificial neural networks for the prediction of water quality of polluted aquifer
Gumrah, F; Oz, B; Guler, B; Evin, S (2000-04-01)
From hydrocarbon reservoirs, beside of oil and natural gas, the brine is also produced as a waste material, which may be discharged at the surface or re-injected into the ground. When the wastewater is injected into the ground, it may be mixed with fresh water source due to to several reasons. Forecasting the pollutant concentrations by knowing the historical data at several locations on a field has a great importance to take the necessary precautions before the undesired situations are happened.
Numerical investigation of hydraulic characteristics of Laleli Dam spillway and comparison with physical model study
Usta, Eray; Köken, Mete; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
Spillway is a hydraulic structure that is used to pass big discharges in flood times in a controlled manner and release surplus water that cannot be safely stored in the reservoir to downstream. During the design process of the spillways, determining of hydraulic behavior of these structures is a very significant issue for an accurate and optimum design. In this thesis, the objective is to investigate the hydraulic characteristics of the flow over Laleli dam spillway numerically and compare the results with...
MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF WAX DEPOSITION IN CRUDE OIL PIPELINES (COMPARATIVE STUDY)
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Informa UK Limited, 2000-11)
In this research, war, deposition in different crude oil pipeline systems was studied. In oil pipelines, the main mechanism for wax appearance is the temperature change along the pipeline. A computer program was developed to simulate the wax precipitation phenomena. Temperature profile along the pipeline was determined and solid liquid equilibrium constant, wax mole fraction and wax thickness along the pipeline were calculated. This computer program was applied to different crude oil pipeline systems in Ira...
