EFFECT OF AGING ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF Al-8Si-8Fe-1.4V/SiCp COMPOSITES
Essari, A.; Sariuglo, F.; Petrovic, Z.; Sedmak, A.; Samardzic, I. (2016-01-01)
In this study, Al-8Fe-8Si-1.4V/SiCp composites fabricated by squeeze casting process were age-hardened to study the influence of heat treatment on mechanical properties, such as hardness, bending strength and modulus of elasticity. The cast samples were solid soluted at 540 degrees C for one hour, then quenched in water to room temperature, and finally aged at 190 degrees C for 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 hours for hardness test and at 195 degrees C for 2, 6 and 10 hours for bending strength determination.
Effect of increased volume of fibers on the fracture properties of cementitious composites
Altürk, Ufuk Emre; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
To apply fiber as a reinforcement, which is much older than the history of concrete, together with concrete is rather a new technology, while cement based products are the most consumed materials after water, considering the consumption amounts. The application areas of fiber reinforced concrete are growing day by day. However, in common practice, fiber content is usually limited up to 2% due to economical, workability and agglomeration problems. This study investigates the changes in the performance of nin...
Effect of aging on the mechanical properties of boron carbide particle reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites
Karakaş, Mustafa Serdar; Ögel, Bilgehan; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2007)
Metal matrix composites (MMCs) of Al - 4 wt.% Cu reinforced with different volumetric fractions of B4C particles were produced by hot pressing. The effect of aging temperature on the age hardening response of the composites was studied and compared with the characteristics exhibited by the matrix alloy. Reinforcement addition was found to considerably affect the age hardening behavior. Detailed transmission electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry observations were made to understand the ag...
