Geometry-based modeling of dispersion in core-shell particle media
Hatipoğlu, Emre; Koku, Harun; Department of Chemical Engineering (2017)
Dispersion is an important physical phenomenon that heavily influences performances of systems such as chromatographic separation processes. Mathematical modeling of this phenomenon is therefore widely investigated. This thesis study investigates dispersion of random-walking particles, or tracers, around core-shell particles, a type of recently commercialized spherical and porous stationary phase used in liquid chromatography that has a solid impermeable core that limits diffusion near the center and a poro...
Automated web service composition with event calculus
Aydın, Onur; Çiçekli, Fehime Nihan; Department of Computer Engineering (2005)
As the Web Services proliferate and complicate it is becoming an overwhelming job to manually prepare the Web Service Compositions which describe the communication and integration between Web Services. This thesis analyzes the usage of Event Calculus, which is one of the logical action-effect definition languages, for the automated preparation and execution of Web Service Compositions. In this context, planning capabilities of Event Calculus are utilized. Translations from Planning Domain Description Langua...
PROGRESSIVE COMPRESSION OF DIGITAL ELEVATION DATA USING MESHES
Kose, Kivanc; Yılmaz, Erdal; ÇETİN, AHMET ENİS (2009-07-17)
In this paper a new Digital Elevation Map (DEM) image compression algorithm is proposed. DEM image can be threated as a grayscale image, whose pixel values are the elevation values of the map points. The grayscale DEM image is compressed using an adaptive wavelet based image compression algorithm. The method, which is an extension of the progressive mesh compression takes advantage of the multiresolution property of the wavelets while coding the map images. This makes it possible to decode different resolut...
Direct gray scale ridge reconstruction in fingerprint images
Domeniconi, C; Tarı, Zehra Sibel; Liang, P (1998-01-01)
An original technique, based on ridge point detection directly from gray scale fingerprint images, is proposed. Our method avoids serious problems that algorithms which perform binarization of fingerprint images have. Each step can be easily hardware implemented, allowing a relevant speed up of the whole process.
Bayesian multi frame super resolution
Turgay, Emre; Akar, Gözde; Akar, Nail; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
This thesis aims at increasing the effective resolution of an image using a set of low resolution images. This process is referred to as super resolution (SR) image reconstruction in the literature. This work proposes maximum a-posteriori (MAP) based iterative reconstruction methods for this problem. The first contribution of the thesis is a novel edge preserving SR image reconstruction method. The proposed MAP based estimator uses local gradient direction and amplitude for optimal noise reduction while prese...
