Experimental investigation of waveform tip injection on the characteristics of the tip vortex
Ostovan, Yashar; Uzol, Oğuz; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2011)
This study investigates the effect of chordwisely modulated tip injection on the flow and turbulence characteristics of the tip vortex through experimental measurements downstream of a rectangular half-wing that has an aspect ratio of three. This injection technique involves spanwise jets at the tip that are issued from a series of holes along the chord line normal to the freestream flow direction. The injection mass flow rate from each hole is individually controlled using computer driven solenoid valves a...
AN IMPROVED 1D MODEL FOR LIQUID SLUGS TRAVELLING IN PIPELINES
Tijsseling, Arris S.; Hou, Qingzhi; Bozkuş, Zafer (2014-07-24)
An improved one-dimensional (1D) model - compared to previous work by the authors - is proposed which is able to predict the acceleration and shortening of a single liquid slug propagating in a straight pipe with a downstream bend. The model includes holdup at the slug's tail and flow separation at the bend. The obtained analytical and numerical results are validated against experimental data. The effects of the improvement and of holdup are examined in a parameter variation study.
Enantioselective synthesis of new chiral 2-aziridinyl phosphonates and studies of their biological activities
Doğan, Özdemir; Beksultanova, Nurzhan; ALTANLAR, NURTEN; Simsek, Duygu; KARABIYIK, HASAN (2017-02-15)
A new series of chiral aziridinyl phosphonates has been synthesized and evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activities. For the synthesis, a Gabriel-Cromwell reaction was used to form aziridinyl phosphonates in 52-83% yield. In order to evaluate antibacterial and antifungal activities, MIC values were measured. Although most of the compounds showed insignificant activity, two of them provided low to moderate antifungal activity.
Precast concrete panel reinforced infill walls for seismic strengthening of reinforced concrete framed structures
Baran, Mehmet; Tankut, Ali Tuğrul; Department of Civil Engineering (2005)
The importance of seismic rehabilitation became evident with 1992 Erzincan Earthquake, after which a large number of reinforced concrete buildings damaged in recent earthquakes required strengthening as well as repair. In the studies related to rehabilitation, it has been realized that inadequate lateral stiffness is one of the major causes of damage in reinforced concrete buildings. Recently, economical, structurally effective and practically applicable seismic retrofitting techniques are being developed i...
PHOTO-CARRIER DYNAMICS OF BLENDED AND MULTI-LAYERED FILMS OF ZINC PHTHALOCYANINE AND C-60 MEASURED BY TIME-RESOLVED TERAHERTZ SPECTROSCOPY
Melinger, Joseph S.; Lane, Paul; Esentürk, Okan; Heilweil, Edwin (2010-06-25)
We present a study of photo-induced carrier dynamics in organic thin films that contain zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) and buckminsterfullerene (C-60) investigated by ultrafast time resolved terahertz spectroscopy (TRTS). We compare two classes of films: 1) blend films of ZnPc and C-60 prepared by co-evaporation, and 2) superlattice films from alternating neat layers of ZnPc and C-60, where the individual layer varies in thickness between 2 nm and 40 nm. These films are model structures for the charge generatio...
