Calculation of core losses of a six-phase induction motor with third harmonic current injection
Büyükbaş, Afşin; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2004)
The advantages of using a six-phase induction motor for industrial drives, over the conventional three-phase drive can be summarized as improved reliability, reduction on the power ratings for the static converters and harmonic reduction. A technique of injecting third harmonic zero sequence current components in the phase currents to improve the machine torque density was presented recently by another research study. However, to meaninigfully evaluate the performnce of such machines and/or to be able to ma...

LONGITUDINAL ELASTIC-WAVE PROPAGATION AND ENERGY FLUX AT A DISCONTINUITY OF 2 DISSIMILAR SEMIINFINITE CIRCULAR RODS
Yıldırım, Raif Orhan (1994-10-01)
Elastic wave propagation through an area discontinuity of two dissimilar, bonded, semi-infinite circular rods is investigated analytically. In particular, the variations of the coefficients of stress reflection and transmission are determined in terms of the nondimensional cross sectional area and mechanical impedance parameters. The coefficients of energy flux reflection and transmission are also included. Then, the case is generalized to include a rigid mass attached at the discontinuity.
Permanent magnet design and image reconstruction algorithm for magnetic resonance imaging in inhomogeneous magnetic fields
Yiğitler, Hüseyin; Eyüboğlu, Behçet Murat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2006)
Recently, the use of permanent magnets as magnetic field sources in biomedical applications has become widespread. However, usage of permanent magnets in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is limited due to their inhomogeneous magnetic field distributions. In this thesis, shape and geometry optimization of a magnet is performed. Moreover, placement of more than one magnet is optimized to obtain desired magnetic field distribution in specific region of space. However, obtained magnetic field distribution can n...
