Effect of pH in an aqueous medium on the surface area, pore size distribution, density, and porosity of montmorillonite
Altin, O; Özbelge, Hilmi Önder; Dogu, T (Elsevier BV, 1999-09-01)
Surface area, pore volume distribution, and porosity of montmorillonite are determined after being exposed to aqueous solutions with various pH values. For measurement, after each pH treatment the clay samples were freeze-dried in order to keep the structure of the clay same as that in the aqueous solution. Surface area and pore size distribution measurements were performed on an unmodified and four pH (2.5, 4.0, 5.5, 9.0)-adjusted clay samples using N-2 and CO2 as adsorbates. The surface area measurements ...

Impact of Casimir Force in Molecular Electronic Switching Junctions
Katzenmeyer, Aaron; Logeeswaran, V. J.; Tekin, Bayram; Islam, M. Saif (2008-03-27)
Despite significant progress In synthesizing several new molecules and many promising single device demonstrations, wide range acceptance of molecular electronics as an alternative to CMOS technology has been stalled not only by controversial theories of a molecular device's operation, for example the switching mechanism, but also by our inability to reproducibly fabricate large arrays of devices. In this paper, we investigate the role of Casimir force as one of the potential source of a wide range of discr...
Effect of polymer additives on the physical properties of bitumen based composites
Doğan, Mehmet; Bayramlı, Erdal; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2006)
Polymer modified bitumen is a binder obtained by the incorporation of various types of polymers in bitumen using mechanical mixing or chemical reactions. There are several factors affecting the properties of polymer modified bituminous composites such as; chemical composition of bitumen, kind of polymer and filler, compatibility of bitumen and polymer, amount of bitumen, polymer and filler, particle size of filler and process conditions. The main objective of this study is to determine the effects of polyme...
