SYNTHESIS OF TiO2 NANOSTRUCTURES VIA HYDROTHERMAL METHOD
Bilgin, Nursev; Agartan, Lutfi; PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah (2014-10-16)
Titania (TiO2) nanostructures were produced via hydrothermal method using amorphous TiO2 powders synthesized by the sol-gel precipitation process. The hydrothermal system was isolated from the environment and hydrothermal reactions were allowed to execute at 130 degrees C for 36 h at autogeneous pressure, and at a stirring rate of 250 rpm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that TiO2 nanofibers formed instead of nanotubes upon utilization of amorphous TiO2 precursor. After hydrothermal syn...
Salmonella enterica Serotype 4,5,12:i:-, an Emerging Salmonella Serotype That Represents Multiple Distinct Clones
Soyer, Yeşim; Davis, M. A.; Maurer, J.; McDonough, P. L.; Schoonmaker-Bopp, D. J.; Dumas, N. B.; Root, T.; Warnick, L. D.; Groehn, Y. T.; Wiedmann, M. (American Society for Microbiology, 2009-11-01)
The prevalence, among human clinical cases, of Salmonella enterica serotype 4,5,12: i:-, a serotype antigenically similar to Salmonella enterica serotype Typhimurium but lacking second-phase flagellar antigens, has increased considerably over the last 10 years. To probe the evolution and ecology of this emerging serotype, we characterized 190 Salmonella isolates initially classified as Salmonella serotypes 4,5,12: i:- (n = 90) and Typhimurium (n = 100) and obtained from various sources in the United States ...
Modeling diseases with multiple disease characteristics: comparison of models and estimation methods
Erdem, Münire Tuğba; Kalaylıoğlu Akyıldız, Zeynep Işıl; Department of Statistics (2011)
Epidemiological data with disease characteristic information can be modelled in several ways. One way is taking each disease characteristic as a response and constructing binary or polytomous logistic regression model. Second way is using a new response which consists of disease subtypes created by cross-classification of disease characteristic levels, and then constructing polytomous logistic regression model. The former may be disadvantageous since any possible covariation between disease characteristics ...
Patient privacy and consent management in health
Alpay, Erdem; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı; Doğaç, Asuman; Department of Computer Engineering (2012)
Health information of patients are preserved either in Electronic Health Records (EHR) repositories which are generally managed in national level or in local hospital systems. However, the real owners of the data are always the patients themselves, without depending where or by whom the data is preserved. Patients should have the rights to permit or deny the access of modification of their information to whoever they want. Here comes the concept of Consent. Consent means provision of approval or agreement, ...
