Alternative forms of internationalization: the case of Iran
Sune, Engin; Altunışık, Meliha; Department of International Relations (2018)
This thesis analyzes different forms of internationalizations by concentranting on the theoretical discussions on the internationalization of capital and the state. With the examination of the political economic structures in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the development of alternative mechanisms in different moments of its integration into the international capitalist system, the study analyzes the triggers that generate varieties in the forms of integration. The research on the political and economic s...
Examinees’ perceptions about an online assessment center and an online assessment tool : a case study
Yılmaz, Ali; Özden, M. Yaşar; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2007)
This study investigated the examinees’ perceptions about an online assessment tool and an online assessment center. In this study, a computer literacy exam (Bilisim Seviye Tespit Sınavı, BSTS) was delivered in purposively designed environment, an online assessment center, at CEC, METU (Continuing Education Center, Middle East Technical University). The data were collected from 117 participants through the “User evaluation questionnaire”, in depth interviews with 43 examinees and 7 experts. 7 participants an...
Globalization and its challenges for developing countries: the case of Turkish higher education
Akar, Hanife (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2010-4-4)
This paper examines the challenges faced by the Turkish higher education system and exposes the inequities and realities educators in a developing nation must struggle with as they try to find a prestigious spot in the knowledge-production industry. After a brief overview of the literature that illustrates how globalization penetrated into each stage of development of Turkey's modern institutions of higher education, the paper presents a discussion, based on national and international statistics, of the cha...
Communication behaviors and trust in collaborative online teams
Bulu, Saniye Tuğba; Yıldırım, Zahide; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2003)
Building and maintaining trust is a necessary condition for group cohesion. In order to successful collaborative group process in online learning environment, development of trust must be understood in online teams. Difference communication behaviors in the online teams with different trust levels were investigated in this research. Participants were 61 students in an undergraduate level who enrolled in the online course. In this research, online teams̕ collaborative communication behaviors were analyzed us...
Charged particle transverse momentum spectra in pp collisions at root s=0.9 and 7 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2011-08-01)
The charged particle transverse momentum (p(T)) spectra are presented for pp collisions at root s = 0.9 and 7 TeV. The data samples were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and correspond to integrated luminosities of 231 mu b(-1) and 2.96 pb(-1), respectively. Calorimeter-based high-transverse-energy triggers are employed to enhance the statistical reach of the high-p(T) measurements. The results are compared with leading and next-to-leading order QCD and with an empirical scaling of measurements at...
