Design of a multi-frequency underwater transducer using cylindrical piezoelectric elements
Yavuz, Şiar Deniz; İder, Kemal S.; Köymen, Hayrettin; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2011)
In this thesis, numerical and experimental design of a multi-frequency underwater acoustic transducer with cylindrical piezoelectric ceramic tubes is studied. In the numerical design, the acoustic, mechanical and thermal performances of the transducer are investigated by means of finite element method (FEM) in ANSYS. The design of the transducer that meets the acoustic requirements is checked in terms of the mechanical and thermal performances. After the completion of the numerical design, the transducer is...

Piezoelectric Cantilever Prototype for Energy Harvesting in Computing Applications
Beker, Levent; Külah, Haluk; Muhtaroglu, Ali (2011-12-02)
This paper presents a piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) to convert vibrations to electrical power. A unimorph cantilever beam is used to generate voltage on piezoelectric material bonded close to the anchor of the cantilever beam. A 4.85 x 1 x 0.04 cm structural layer with piezoelectric material yields peak-to-peak voltage of 64 V at the resonance frequency of the structure. The empirically confirmed maximum power output is close to 0.5 mW. The results from validation data on the observed structure has b...
Qualification of Large Testing Facilities in Earthquake Engineering Research
Kurç, Özgür; Sucuoğlu, Haluk (2010-09-03)
The qualification of large testing facilities serving in earthquake engineering research and the management of the instrumentation are the central issues of this paper. The main aspects of instrumentation management and seismic test methods are presented, commented upon and critically assessed based on both the answers to a questionnaire and the outcomes of the SERIES Workshop about the Qualification of Facilities held in Ohrid, MK. On the basis of the results presented herein and the proposals and comments...
Investigation of decoupling techniques for linear and nonlinear systems
Kalaycıoğlu, Taner; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2018)
Structural coupling methods are widely used in predicting dynamics of coupled systems. In this study, the reverse problem, i.e. predicting the dynamic behavior of a particular subsystem from the knowledge of the dynamics of the overall system and of all the other subsystems, is studied. This problem arises when a substructure cannot be measured separately, but only when coupled to neighboring substructures. The dynamic decoupling problem of coupled linear structures is well investigated in literature. Howev...
