Collagen scaffolds with in situ grown calcium phosphate for osteogenic differentiation of wharton’s jelly and menstrual blood stem cells
Karadaş, Özge; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Köse, Gamze Torun; Department of Biotechnology (2011)
The importance of developing new techniques for the treatment of bone and joint diseases is increasing continuosly together with the increase of human population and the average life span. Especially bone fractures as a result of osteoporosis are often seen in humans older than 50 years old. The expenses of bone and joint disease operations are very high and the duration of recovery is long. Because of these reasons World Health Organization, The United Nations and 37 countries announced that the years 2000...
Bone tissue engineering using macroporous PHA-PLA and PHBV scaffolds produced by additive manufacturing and wet spinning
Alagöz, Ayşe Selcen; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Department of Biology (2016)
Bone supports and protects organs of body, stores minerals, produces blood cells and enables the movement of body. In addition, bone regulates homeostasis by controlling the concentration of key electrolytes in the blood and in the storage of Ca+2 and PO43- ions. Trauma, tumor, nonunion fractures and diseases like osteoporosis lead to bone loss that affects millions of people. Current clinical treatments such as application of autograft and allograft for treatment of these problems are limited due to donor ...
Free standing layer-by-layer films of polyethyleneimine and poly(l-lysine) for potential use in corneal stroma engineering
Altay, Gizem; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Khademhosseini, Ali; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2011)
In this study we fabricated free standing multilayer films of polyelectrolyte complexes for potential use in tissue engineering of corneal stroma by using the layer-by-layer (LbL) approach. In the formation of these LbL films negatively charged, photocrosslinkable (methacrylated) hyaluronic acid (MA-HA) was used along with polycations polyethyleneimine (PEI) and poly(L-lysine) (PLL). Type I collagen (Col) was blended in with PLL for improving the water absorption and cell attachment properties of the films....
Biodegradable poly (ester-urethane) scaffolds for bone tissue engineering
Kızıltay, Aysel; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Department of Biotechnology (2011)
During last decade, polyurethanes (PUs) which are able to degrade into harmless molecules upon implantation have received a significant level of attention as a biomaterial in tissue engineering applications. Many studies are focused especially on development of PUs based on amino acid derivatives; however, there are only few applications of amino acid based PUs in tissue engineering. In this study, a biocompatible and biodegradable thermoplastic poly(ester-urethane) (PEU) based on L-lysine diisocyanate (LDI...
Decellularized adipose tissue matrix-coated and simvastatin-loaded hydroxyapatite microspheres for bone regeneration
Kesim, Merve G.; Durucan, Caner; Atila, Deniz; Keskin, Dilek; Tezcaner, Ayşen (2022-01-01)
© 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC.Simvastatin (SIM)-loaded and human decellularized adipose tissue (DAT)-coated porous hydroxyapatite (HAp) microspheres were developed for the first time to investigate their potential on bone regeneration. Microspheres were loaded with SIM and then coated with DAT for modifying SIM release and improving their biological response. HAp microspheres were prepared by water-in-oil emulsion method using camphene (C10H16) as porogen followed by camphene removal by freeze-drying and sin...
