The deactivation behavior of the TiO2 used as a photo-catalyst for benzene oxidation
Üner, Deniz (1999-01-01)
In this study, the deactivation behavior of TiO2 as a photocatalyst for benzene decomposition to carbon dioxide and water was investigated. The effect of space time on the benzene and carbon dioxide conversions were monitored. Benzene conversion and carbon dioxide production rates were not correlated, indicating accumulation of a carbon containing intermediate on the surface. This intermediate was blocking the active sites at a stiochiometry of 1 C:1 site. High space times favored the production of carbon d...
Fusion of thermal- and visible-band video for abandoned object detection
Beyan, Cigdem; Yiğit, Ahmet; Temizel, Alptekin (2011-07-01)
Timely detection of packages that are left unattended in public spaces is a security concern, and rapid detection is important for prevention of potential threats. Because constant surveillance of such places is challenging and labor intensive, automated abandoned-object-detection systems aiding operators have started to be widely used. In many studies, stationary objects, such as people sitting on a bench, are also detected as suspicious objects due to abandoned items being defined as items newly added to ...
"ON A GENERAL APPROACH TO FREE VIBRATIONS RESPONSE of INTEGRALLY-STIFFENED and/or STEPPED-THICKNESS RECTANGULAR PLATES or PANELS"
Yuceoglu, Umur; Javanshir, Jaber; Guvendik, Oezen (2008-11-06)
This study is mainly concerned with a "General Approach" to the "Theoretical Analysis and the Solution of the Free Vibrations Response of Integrally-Stiffened and/or Stepped-Thickness Plates or Panels with Two or more Integral Plate Stiffeners". In general, the "Stiffened System" (regardless of the number of "Plate Stiffeners") is considered to be composed of dissimilar "Orthotropic Mindlin Plates" with unequal thicknesses. The dynamic governing equations of the individual plate elements of the "System" and...

Development of a calcium phosphate-gelatin composite as a bone substitute and its use in drug release
Yaylaoglu, MB; Korkusuz, P; Ors, U; Korkusuz, F; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat (1999-04-01)
This study was carried out to develop a calcium phosphate-gelatin composite implant that would mimic the structure and function of bone for use in filling voids or gaps and to release bioactive compounds like drugs, growth hormones into the implant site to assist healing. XDS analysis of the synthesized calcium phosphate revealed a calcium to phosphorus molar ratio of ca. 2.30, implying a less erodible material than hydroxyapatite (1.67). Release of the antibiotic gentamicin from the implant was with a burs...
