In this thesis, an 8-bit microcontroller, 8051 core, is implemented using SystemC programming language. SystemC is a new generation co-design language which is capable of both programming software and describing hardware parts of a complete system. The benefit of this design environment appears while developing a System-on-Chip (SoC), that is a system consisting both custom hardware parts and embedded software parts. SystemC is not a completely new language, but based on C++ with some additional class libraries and extensions to handle hardware related concepts such as signals, multi-valued logic, clock and delay elements. 8051 is an 8 bit microcontroller which is widely used in industry for many years. The 8051 core is still being used as the main controller in today2s highly complex chips, such as communication and bus controllers. During the development cycles of a System-on-Chip, instead of using separate design environments for hardware and software parts, the usage of a unified co-design environment provides a better design and simulation methodology which also decreases the number of iterations at hardware software integration. In this work, an 8-bit 8051 microcontroller core and external memory modules are developed using SystemC that can be re-used in future designs to achieve more complex System-on-Chip2s. During the development of the 8051 core, simulation results are analyzed at each step to verify the design from the very beginning of the work, which makes the design processes more structured and controlled and faster as a result.

3D synthetic human face modelling tool based on T-spline surfaces
Aydoğan, Ali; Ulusoy, İlkay; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
In this thesis work, a 3D Synthetic Human Face Modelling Software is implemented using C++ and OpenGL. Bézier surfaces, B-spline surfaces, Nonuniform Rational B-spline surfaces, Hierarchical B-Spline surfaces and T-spline surfaces are evaluated as options for the surface description method. T-spline surfaces are chosen since they are found to be superior considering the requirements of the work. In the modelling process, a modular approach is followed. Firstly, high detailed facial regions (i.e. nose, eyes,...
A Static analysis approach for service oriented software engineering (SOSE) designs
Çermikli, Can; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, a static analysis approach is introduced in order to develop correct business processes according to the Web Service Business Process Execution Language (WS-BPEL) specification. The modeling of the business processes are conducted with Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) which is a popular orchestrator of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) based system through the description of workflow. This approach is also integrated to the Service Oriented Software Engineering (SOSE) design tec...
Comparison of rough multi layer perceptron and rough radial basis function networks using fuzzy attributes
Vural, Hülya; Alpaslan, Ferda Nur; Department of Computer Engineering (2004)
The hybridization of soft computing methods of Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural networks, Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural networks with back-propagation learning, fuzzy sets and rough sets are studied in the scope of this thesis. Conventional MLP, conventional RBF, fuzzy MLP, fuzzy RBF, rough fuzzy MLP, and rough fuzzy RBF networks are compared. In the fuzzy neural networks implemented in this thesis, the input data and the desired outputs are given fuzzy membership values as the fuzzy properties أlow...
Parallel Scalable PDE Constrained Optimization Antenna Identification in Hyperthermia Cancer Treatment Planning
SCHENK, Olaf; Manguoğlu, Murat; CHRİSTEN, Matthias; SATHE, Madan (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-01-01)
We present a PDE-constrained optimization algorithm which is designed for parallel scalability on distributed-memory architectures with thousands of cores. The method is based on a line-search interior-point algorithm for large-scale continuous optimization, it is matrix-free in that it does not require the factorization of derivative matrices. Instead, it uses a new parallel and robust iterative linear solver on distributed-memory architectures. We will show almost linear parallel scalability results for t...
Test driven development of embedded systems
İspir, Mustafa; Bilgen, Semih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2004)
In this thesis, the Test Driven Development method (TDD) is studied for use in developing embedded software. The required framework is written for the development environment Rhapsody. Integration of TDD into a classical development cycle, without necessitating a transition to agile methodologies of software development and required unit test framework to apply TDD to an object oriented embedded software development project with a specific development environment and specific project conditions are done in ...
