Implementation of an 8-bit microcontroller with system c

Kesen, Lokman
In this thesis, an 8-bit microcontroller, 8051 core, is implemented using SystemC programming language. SystemC is a new generation co-design language which is capable of both programming software and describing hardware parts of a complete system. The benefit of this design environment appears while developing a System-on-Chip (SoC), that is a system consisting both custom hardware parts and embedded software parts. SystemC is not a completely new language, but based on C++ with some additional class libraries and extensions to handle hardware related concepts such as signals, multi-valued logic, clock and delay elements. 8051 is an 8 bit microcontroller which is widely used in industry for many years. The 8051 core is still being used as the main controller in today2s highly complex chips, such as communication and bus controllers. During the development cycles of a System-on-Chip, instead of using separate design environments for hardware and software parts, the usage of a unified co-design environment provides a better design and simulation methodology which also decreases the number of iterations at hardware software integration. In this work, an 8-bit 8051 microcontroller core and external memory modules are developed using SystemC that can be re-used in future designs to achieve more complex System-on-Chip2s. During the development of the 8051 core, simulation results are analyzed at each step to verify the design from the very beginning of the work, which makes the design processes more structured and controlled and faster as a result.

Implementation of concurrent constraint transaction logic and its user interface
Altunyuva, Fethi; Karagöz, Pınar; Department of Computer Engineering (2006)
This thesis implements a logical formalism framework called Concurrent Constraint Transaction Logic (abbr.,CCTR) which was defined for modeling and scheduling of workflows under resource allocation and cost constraints and develops an extensible and flexible graphical user interface for the framework. CCTR extends Concurrent Transaction Logic and integrates with Constraint Logic Programming to find the correct scheduling of tasks that involves resource and cost constraints. The developed system, which integ...
Comparison of rough multi layer perceptron and rough radial basis function networks using fuzzy attributes
Vural, Hülya; Alpaslan, Ferda Nur; Department of Computer Engineering (2004)
The hybridization of soft computing methods of Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural networks, Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural networks with back-propagation learning, fuzzy sets and rough sets are studied in the scope of this thesis. Conventional MLP, conventional RBF, fuzzy MLP, fuzzy RBF, rough fuzzy MLP, and rough fuzzy RBF networks are compared. In the fuzzy neural networks implemented in this thesis, the input data and the desired outputs are given fuzzy membership values as the fuzzy properties أlow...
Pipelined design approach to microprocessor architectures a partial implementation : mips pıpelined architecture on fpga
Altıniğneli, Muzaffer Can; Güran, Hasan; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
This thesis demonstrate how pipelining in a RISC processor is achieved by implementing a subset of MIPS R2000 instructions on FPGA. Pipelining, which is one of the primary concepts to speed up a microprocessor is emphasized throughout this thesis. Pipelining is fundamentally invisible for high level programming language user and this work reveals the internals of microprocessor pipelining and the potential problems encountered while implementing pipelining. The comparative and quantitative flow of this thes...
A compact cryptographic processor for IPSec applications
Kavun, Elif Bilge; Akyıldız, Ersan; Yalçın, Tolga; Department of Cryptography (2010)
A compact cryptographic processor with custom integrated cryptographic coprocessors is designed and implemented. The processor is mainly aimed for IPSec applications, which require intense processing power for cryptographic operations. In the present design, this processing power is achieved via the custom cryptographic coprocessors. These are an AES engine, a SHA-1 engine and a Montgomery modular multiplier, which are connected to the main processor core through a generic flexible interface. The processor ...
Parallel Scalable PDE Constrained Optimization Antenna Identification in Hyperthermia Cancer Treatment Planning
SCHENK, Olaf; Manguoğlu, Murat; CHRİSTEN, Matthias; SATHE, Madan (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-01-01)
We present a PDE-constrained optimization algorithm which is designed for parallel scalability on distributed-memory architectures with thousands of cores. The method is based on a line-search interior-point algorithm for large-scale continuous optimization, it is matrix-free in that it does not require the factorization of derivative matrices. Instead, it uses a new parallel and robust iterative linear solver on distributed-memory architectures. We will show almost linear parallel scalability results for t...
