Synthesis, characterization, and polymerization of polyether bridged thiophene and aniline derivatives

Tirkeş, Seha
New compounds consisting of 3-thienyl and aniline units linked by polyether bridges have been synthesized and their electrochemical polymerization was performed via constant potential electrolysis and cyclic voltammetry. In the case of 3-thienyl derivatives two compounds, 1,12-di-3-thienyl-2,5,8,11-tetraoxadodecane (MI) and 1,15-di-3-thienyl-2,5,8,11,14-pentaoxapentadecane (MII) were synthesized utilizing literature methods and their corresponding polymers, poly(I) and poly(II) were prepared in an electrolytic solution containing 0.1 M terabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6) dissolved in CH3CN. On the other hand, polymerization of aniline derivatives, 2,2'-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxyethane-2,1-diyloxy)]dianiline (MIII) and 2,2'-[oxybis(ethane-2,1-diyloxyethane-2,1-diyloxy)]dianiline (MIV), was achieved in an aqueous solution containing 3.0 mol.L-1 H2SO4. Spectroelectrochemical (SPEL) properties and thermal analysis of the resulting polymers have been investigated using UV-vis, and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). MIII was also polymerized via chemical oxidation for comparison purposes. The polymers were characterized using 1H-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopic techniques. Furthermore, copolymers of MIII and MIV with aniline (ANI) were also studied with cyclic voltammetry (CV). SPEL behavior and electrical conduction mechanism of resulting copolymers were investigated using UV-vis spectroscopic technique and four-point probe technique, respectively.

Synthesis, characterization and electrical properties of diazophenylene and diazodiphenylene bridged co, ni, cu, ce, and er phthalocyanine polymers
Alkan, Cemil; Alkan, Cemil; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2004)
In this research, diazophenylene and diazodiphenylene bridged metal-phthalocyanine polymers were produced from diazonium salt of diaminophenylene/bensidin and pre-synthesized tetraamino metal phthalocyanines. Tetraamino metal phthalocyanine complexes of Co, Ni, Cu, Ce, and Er were obtained by reducing tetranitro metal phthalocyanine complexes synthesized from 3-nitrophthalic anhydride, urea, metal salt, and ammonium molybdate catalyst. Complexes and polymers were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared ...
Synthesis and characterization of polypyrrole nanoparticles and their nanocomposites with polypropylene
Baytekin, Sevil; Küçükyavuz, Zuhal; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2009)
Conducting polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles were synthesized via microemulsion polymerization system. The characterization of PPy nanoparticles was done by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Nanocomposites were prepared by melt-mixing of polypyrrole with polypropylene (PP) and processed with injection molding. The amount of PPy in nanocomposites varied in the range of 1-20% by weight. The effect of PPy nanoparticles on mechanical, electrical properties and ...
Synthesis and characterization of polybenzoxazine
Efe, Tuğba; Tinçer, Teoman; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2009)
A new method for polybenzoxazine synthesis was developed and carried out throughout this work. Bisphenol-A, hexamethylenediamine, and paraformaldehyde were reacted through Mannich condensation reaction forming polybenzoxazine precursors. The reaction was followed by Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) as a molecular weight determination method in order to decide the end of reaction. The synthesized product, polybenzoxazine precursors, was polymerized thermally. Polybenzoxazine precursors were also character...
Synthesis of polythiophene and polypyrrole derivatives and their application in electrochromic devices
Ak, Metin; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Chemistry (2006)
Different substituted thiophene and pyrrole monomers namely hexamethylene (bis-3-thiopheneacetamide) (HMTA), N-(4-(3-thienylmethylene)-oxycarbonylphenyl)maleimide (MBThi), 2,4,6-Tris-(4-pyrrol-1-yl-phenoxy)-[1,3,5]triazine (TriaPy), 2,4,6-Tris-(thiophen-3-ylmethoxy)-[1,3,5] triazine (TriaTh), and N-(2-(thiophen-3-yl)methylcarbonyloxyethyl) maleimide (NMT) were synthesized. The chemical structures of the monomers were characterized by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H-NMR and 13C-NMR) and Fourier Transform Infr...
Polymerization and polymer characterization of acetylenedicarboxylic acid monopotassium salt
Anaçoğlu, Elif; Usanmaz, Ali; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2005)
Acetylenedicarboxylic acid monopotassium salt, ADCA-K, was polymerized by radiation induced solid-state and chemical initiator induced solution polymerization methods. Radiation induced solid-state polymerization was carried out by Co-60 g-radiation at room temperature. The powder polymer obtained was soluble in water but insoluble in common organic solvents. The solution polymerization initiated by benzoylperoxide was carried out in an oil bath at 90°C. The polymer obtained was soluble in water but insolub...
