The purpose of this study was to display increase in eccentric hamstring strength after 10-weeks training program. Secondly, if such an increase occurred, would this strength change result in altered landing kinetics and improved jumping performance? 27 recreational female athletes assigned into experimental (n = 14) and control (n = 13) groups. Baseline measures of landing kinetics were collected using a force plate, strength data and proprioceptive measurements were evaluated using an isokinetic dynamometer and vertical jump performance were determined by a jumping mat. Results indicated that NHST group increased their eccentric hamstring strength after eccentric strength training program (week-1 = 233.6±27.5, week-10 = 253.8±28.4 Nm/kgbw; p<.05). The results demonstrated that there were significant differences in landing mechanics for NHST group. PVGRF (week-1 = 6.2±0.9, week-5 = 5.3±0.9; p<.05), PAPGRF (week-1 = 1.1±0.2 & week-10 = 0.8±0.3; p<.05) and APImp results demonstrated significant differences in trained group (week-1 = 78.1±13.6 & week-10 = 67.8±9.2; p<.05). NHST group exhibited significant increase in vertical jumping ability (week-1 = 0.25±0.0 & week-10 = 0.27±0.0 cm; p<.01). This study supported the following points: 1) increases in the eccentric hamstring strength were evident after NHST program, 2) the increases in isokinetic strength were sufficient to cause alterations in landing kinetics to decrease the applied joint forces, so the NHST program would be an influential factor in decreasing the lower extremity injuries, and 3) the increase in the efficiency of force transfer at the final take off phase of jumping contributed to a higher performance in vertical jump.

Effects of 5 week nordic hamstring strength training on 10-12 years old male basketball players
Tansel, Rıfat Baran; Korkusuz, Feza; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2006)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Nordic hamstring strength training (NHST) program on (1) leg power, (2) vertical jump, (3) and knee proprioception measurements of 10-12 years old male basketball players. Nordic Hamstring Strength Training (NHST) group (N=16), participated in basketball training plus in Nordic hamstring strength training, while the control group (N=11) participated in basketball training only. Subjects were tested before and after 5-week training program for, vert...
Determine he effects of long term playing socer on the degeneration of lumbar spine
Altunsöz, Ömür Serdal; Korkusuz, Feza; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2006)
The main purpose of this study was to determine whether playing soccer at high intensity training for a long period causes degeneration of the lumbar spine or not. This degeneration may occur without any symptoms or low back pain. Results of the present study were discussed in the framework of lumbar disc degeneration, trunk strength, lumbar and hip bone mineral density, trunk flexibility, activity MET scores for active and veteran soccer groups. There have been four subject groups in this study (15 active ...
The effects of positive core self and external evaluations on performance appraisals
Güven, Lale; Sümer, Canan H; Department of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (2007)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of core self-evaluations (CSEs) and core external-evaluations (CEEs) on performance evaluations. It was hypothesized that people with higher levels of CSEs and CEEs would be more lenient in their performance ratings, when rating neutral performance. The second hypothesis of the study was that people with higher and lower CSEs would engage more in halo when rating neutral performance compared to people with average levels of CSEs. It was further hypoth...
Effects of Pilates exercise on trunk strength, endurance and flexibility in sedentary adult females
Sekendiz, Betul; Altun, Ozkan; Korkusuz, Feza; Akın, Serhat (2007-10-01)
The objective of this study was to examine the effects of Pilates exercise on abdominal and lower back strength, abdominal muscular endurance and posterior trunk flexibility of sedentary adult females. The body fat and body mass index (BMI) pre-and post-data were also assessed as secondary outcomes. To assess abdominal and lower back strength, posterior trunk flexion and extension data were obtained concentrically on a Biodex isokinetic dynamometer at speeds of 601 and 120 degrees s(-1). Abdominal muscular ...
Effects of swiss ball training on knee joint reposition sense, core strength and dynamic balance in sedentary collegiate students
Cuğ, Mutlu; Korkusuz, Feza; Department of Physical Education and Sports (2012)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Swiss ball training on (1) knee joint reposition sense (knee proprioception), (2) core muscle strength and (3) dynamic balance in sedentary collegiate students. In this thesis, two different participant groups and two different training methods were used. In order to evaluate the effect of Swiss ball training on knee proprioception and core strength, 3 days per week training was conducted throughout 10 weeks (Study 1). In order to evaluate the effe...
