Sensorless vector control of induction motor based on flux and speed estimation

Ertuğrul, Barış Tuğrul
The main focus of the study is the implementation of techniques regarding flux estimation and rotor speed estimation by the use of sensorless closed-loop observers. Within this framework, the information about the mathematical representation of the induction motor, pulse width modulation technique and flux oriented vector control techniques together with speed adaptive flux estimation a kind of sensorless closed loop estimation technique- and Kalman filters is given. With the comparison of sensorless closed-loop speed estimation techniques, it has been attempted to identify their superiority and inferiority to each other by the use of simulation models and real-time experiments. In the experiments, the performance of the techniques developed and used in the thesis has been examined under extensively changing speed and load conditions. The real-time experiments have been carried out by the use of TI TMS320F2812 digital signal processor, XILINX XCS2S150E Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), control card and the motor drive card Furthermore, Matlab “Embedded Target for the TI C2000 DSP” and “Code Composer Studio” software tools have been used. The simulations and experiments conducted in the study have illustrated that it is possible to increase the performance at low speeds at the expense of increased computational burden on the processor. However, in order to control the motor at zero speed, high frequency signal implementation should be used as well as a different electronic hardware.

Multi-objective design optimization of a permanent magnet axial flux eddy current brake
Tarvirdilu-Asl, Rasul; Yuksel, Murat; Keysan, Ozan (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2019-01-01)
The main aim of this study is to optimize an axial flux eddy current damper to be used in a specific aviation application. Eddy current dampers are more advantageous compared to conventional mechanical dampers as they are maintenance-free due to contactless structure and have higher reliability, which is very desirable in aerospace applications. An initial eddy current brake prototype is manufactured and the test results are used to verify the 3-D finite element simulations. The effect of temperature on the...
Frequency invariant beamforming and its application to wideband direction of arrival estimation
Babataş, Eren; Candan, Çağatay; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
In this thesis the direction of arrival estimation of wideband signals using frequency invariant beamforming method is examined. The difficulty with the direction of arrival estimation of wideband signals is that it is not possible to obtain a single covariance matrix valid for the whole frequency spectrum of the signal. There are various methods proposed in the literature to overcome this difficulty. The common aim of all the methods is to obtain a composite covariance matrix for the overall band of the si...
Joint frequency offset and channel estimation
Avan, Muhammet; Candan, Çağatay; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
In this thesis study, joint frequency offset and channel estimation methods for single-input single-output (SISO) systems are examined. The performance of maximum likelihood estimate of the parameters are studied for different training sequences. Conventionally training sequences are designed solely for the channel estimation purpose. We present a numerical comparison of different training sequences for the joint estimation problem. The performance comparisons are made in terms of mean square estimation err...
Improvements to neural network based restoration in optical networks
Türk, Fethi; Bilgen, Semih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2008)
Performance of neural network based restoration of optical networks is evaluated and a few possible improvements are proposed. Neural network based restoration is simulated with optical link capacities assigned by a new method. Two new improvement methods are developed to reduce the neural network size and the restoration time of severed optical connections. Cycle based restoration is suggested, which reduces the neural network structure by restoring the severed connections for each optical node, iterativel...
Parameter extraction and image enhancement for catadioptric omnidirectional cameras
Baştanlar, Yalın; Çetin, Yasemin; Department of Information Systems (2005)
In this thesis, catadioptric omnidirectional imaging systems are analyzed in detail. Omnidirectional image (ODI) formation characteristics of different camera-mirror configurations are examined and geometrical relations for panoramic and perspective image generation with common mirror types are summarized. A method is developed to determine the unknown parameters of a hyperboloidal-mirrored system using the world coordinates of a set of points and their corresponding image points on the ODI. A linear relati...
