Transportation cost is an important item in total operating cost of an open pit mining operations. In some projects, the transportation cost may reach to 60 % of total operating cost. Turkish Coal Enterprises (TKİ) delivers the demanded coal to all cities of Turkey within the context of Prime Ministry Social Solidarity and Aid Fund. The project duration, demanded coal amount whether the coal is needed as packed or unpacked form are determined by local governors. In this study, a model is developed through software, called NAKMAL for the estimation of TKİ’s coal transportation cost. Transportation cost model is coded using Visual Studio.NET 2005. This model is designed in modular structure and composed of 19 modules. Excavation and transportation in a mine is an important part of the model. Model considers all the highway, railway and transportation by ship alternatives, as well as the packing operation. This model is being used in evaluation of bids by the decision of TKİ’s board of executive committee.

An approach on dilution and ore recovery / loss calculations in minearal reserve estimations at the Cayeli mine, Turkey
Soyer, Nihat; Güyagüler, Tevfik; Department of Mining Engineering (2006)
Dilution and ore recovery/loss have an important role in calculation of mineral reserves. Each percent increase in dilution and decrease in recovery negatively affects economic value of the reserve. These parameters are mainly controlled by the quality of the mine design and stoping practice. This study provides an approach developed for dilution and recovery/ore loss calculations. The contribution of mine design software (MineSight) and the recent survey technique called Cavity Monitoring System (CMS) were...
Investigation of bit hydraulics for gasified drilling fluids
Doğan, Hüseyin Ali; Özbayoğlu, Mehmet Evren; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2004)
Accurate determination of the pressure losses at the bit is very important for drilling practices in petroleum industry. In the literature, there are several studies on determination of the pressure losses. Major focus is concentrated on single phase drilling fluids, which is far from accurate estimation of pressure losses for multiphase fluids, i.e., fluids including a liquid and a gas phase, at the bit. Some of these models are valid for multiphase fluids, however, they are either valid for very high gas ...
Design and implementation of a multimodal transportation cost analysis model for domestic lignite supply in Turkey
Demir, Eylül Ceren; Karpuz, Celal; Demirel, Nuray (2012-11-01)
Transportation cost is the dominant cost and accounts for almost half of the total mining cost in surface mining. Therefore, determining transportation cost is critically important for the economic feasibility of mining projects. Turkey produces around 85 million tons of lignite per annum. The biggest state-owned company, Turkish Coal Enterprises (TKI), accounts for 43 per cent of the country's total lignite production. Around 85 per cent of the produced lignite is used in power plants for electricity gener...
Flooding analysis and slope stability assessment due to a confined aquifer in the Elbistan-Çöllolar open cast mine
Yoncacı, Selin; Tutluoğlu, Levent; Department of Mining Engineering (2009)
Groundwater can be a critical issue to be considered in civil engineering, mining engineering and interdisciplinary fields. Karstic structures and aquifers enclosing groundwater are potential risks in case they are not studied in detail. Enclosed groundwater can result in floods at pit bottom or can cause instabilities of permanent pit slopes. This study is about analyses of flooding possibility at the pit bottom and possible instabilities of pit slopes in the Elbistan-Çöllolar open cast coal mine due to th...
A computer simulator for ball mill grinding
Yeşilay, Yasemin; Hoşten, Çetin; Department of Mining Engineering (2004)
Ball mill grinding is an important operation in the processing of most minerals, in that it may be used to produce particles of the required size and shape, to liberate minerals from each other for concentration purposes, and to increase the powder surface area. Grinding of minerals is probably the most energy consuming task and optimization of this operation has vital importance in processing plant operations to achieve the lowest operating costs. Predicting the complete product size distribution, mill spe...
