Considering the requirements of the commercial and military applications on amplitude and phase linearity, it is necessary to reduce nonlinearity of the amplifiers. There are several linearization techniques that are used to reduce nonlinearity effects. Feedforward linearization technique is known as one of the best linearization methods due to its superior linearization performance and broadband operation. Vector modulators which allows amplitude and phase modulation simultaneously, is the most important component of a feedforward system. In this thesis, first of all a broadband V/UHF vector modulator designed and implemented. Then a feedforward system is investigated and implemented using the designed vector modulator for V/UHF band.

Bilgin, Hazım Faruk; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
This research work is devoted to the analysis, design and development of the first medium power Current-Source Converter (CSC) based distribution-type Static Synchronous Compensator (D-STATCOM) with simplest converter topology and coupling transformer connection. The developed CSC-D-STATCOM includes a +/-750kVAr full-bridge CSC employing Selective Harmonic Elimination Method (SHEM), a 250kVAr low-pass input filter at 1kV voltage level, and a Δ/Y connected coupling transformer for connection to medium-voltag...
Design and realization of broadband instantaneous frequency discriminator
Pamuk, Gökhan; Yıldırım, Nevzat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
n this thesis, RF sections of a multi tier instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) receiver which can operate in 2 – 18 GHz frequency band is designed, simulated and partially realized. The designed structure uses one coarse tier, three medium tiers and one fine tier for frequency discrimination. A novel reflective phase shifting technique is developed which enables the design of very wideband phase shifters using stepped cascaded transmission lines. Compared to the classical phase shifters using coupled ...
Investigation of multilevel inverters for d-statcom applications
Deniz, Mustafa; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
The most important advantages of Multilevel Inverters are the absence of a coupling transformer for medium voltage applications and low harmonic current content. In this way, relocatable and economical STATCOM systems can be realized. Complex control algorithms and the isolation problems of measurement devices and power supplies are the main challenging parts of this type of application. In this study, the design, realization, and the performance of a Voltage Source Type Cascaded Multilevel Converter Based ...
Design of Maisel sidelobe blankers with a guarantee on the gap to optimality
COŞKUN, Osman; Candan, Çağatay (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 2016-11-01)
The conventional sidelobe blanking system, known as the Maisel sidelobe blanker, uses two receiving channels with different gains to detect the presence of a jammer. The Maisel system is an ad-hoc detector without any optimality properties. Yet, it has been successfully utilised in numerous operational systems. Here, the authors study the optimum Neyman-Pearson type sidelobe blanking (SLB) detectors for the Swerling target models to assist the design of Maisel blankers. The authors note that the optimal sid...
Design and implementation of low phase noise phase locked loop based local oscillator
Bölücek, Muhsin Alperen; Yıldırım, Nevzat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
In this thesis, a low phase noise local oscillator operating at 2210 MHz is designed and implemented to be used in X-Band transmitter of a LEO satellite. Designed local oscillator is a PLL (Phase Locked Loop) based frequency synthesizer which is implemented using discrete commercial components including ultra low noise voltage controlled oscillator and high resolution, low noise fractional-N synthesizer. Operational settings of the synthesizer are done using three wire serial interface of a microcontroller....
