Alu insertion polymorphisms in Anatolian Turks
Dinç, Havva; Togan, İnci Zehra; Department of Biological Sciences (2003)
In the present study; ten autosomal human-specific Alu insertion polymorphisms; ACE, APO, A25, B65, D1, FXIIIB, HS4.32, HS4.69, PV92 and TPA25 were analyzed in approximately 100 unrelated individuals from Anatolia. Alu insertion polymorphisms offer several advantages over other nuclear DNA polymorphisms for human evolution studies. The frequencies of the ten biallelic Alu insertions in Anatolians were calculated and all systems were found to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p>0.05). By combining the result...
Alu insertion polymorphisms and an assessment of the genetic contribution of Central Asia to Anatolia with respect to the Balkans
Berkman, Ceren Caner; Dinc, Havva; Sekeryapan, Ceran; Togan, İnci Zehra (Wiley, 2008-05-01)
In the evolutionary history of modern humans, Anatolia acted as a bridge between the Caucasus, the Near East, and Europe. Because of its geographical location, Anatolia was subject to migrations from multiple different regions throughout time. The last, well-known migration was the movement of Turkic speaking, nomadic groups from Central Asia. They invaded Anatolia and then the language of the region was gradually replaced by the Turkic language. In the present study, insertion frequencies of 10 Alu loci (A...
ALOX15 participates in re-sensitization of doxorubicin resistance in MCF7 and HeLa cells by re-organizing cell membrane, inducing apoptosis and regulating intracellular redox states

AlCl3 Catalyzed Oxo-Diels-Alder and Wittig-Type Reaction of 2,3-Dimethyl-1,3-Butadiene With Acyl Phosphonates
Nadeem, S.; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı (Informa UK Limited, 2014-11-02)
Different aliphatic and aromatic acyl phosphonates were synthesized using Arbuzov reaction and subjected to Oxo-Diels-Alder (ODA) reaction with 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene at -78 degrees C. AlCl3 was found the best catalyst to obtain the desired ODA products from acyl phosphonates in only 30min at low temperature, as compared to 100 degrees C-previously reported. The same reaction was repeated at room temperature but, instead of ODA, Wittig-type product was obtained. All the products were characterized by NM...
ALCAM is indirectly modulated by miR-125b in MCF7 cells
AKMAN, H. Begum; SELCUKLU, S. Duygu; DONOGHUE, Mark T. A.; AKHAVANTABASI, Shiva; SAPMAZ, Aysegul; SPILLANE, Charles; Yakicier, M. Cengiz; Erson Bensan, Ayşe Elif (2015-05-01)
MicroRNA (miRNA) deregulation is associated with various cancers. Among an expanding list of cancer-related miRNAs, deregulation of miR-125b has been well documented in many cancers including breast. Based on current knowledge, miR-125b is considered to be a tumor suppressor in breast cancers. While important messenger RNA (mRNA) targets have been defined for miR-125b, here, we aimed to further investigate direct/indirect consequences of miR-125b expression in breast cancer cells by using a transcriptome ap...
